Pred

Hi all, I've noticed over the last few days that about 1-2pm I start getting aches and pains and get really tired where I need to have a nap. Could this be pred is wearing off or I'm not on higher enough dose. I'm on 13mg for I think it 5weeks now. I usually take pred between 7-8am and always have taken it same time since started on pred

I am so sorry. Does the pain get worse over the evening or does it improve? They say with PMR you should rest, rest, rest.

You poor thing... but it is par for the course. At your stage I used to organise my life to have a sleep for a couple of hours every afternoon, which then enabled me to feel ok for the evening. It won’t be like this for ever! But it is early days for you and this disease, and the way you are feeling is not unusual.

It is par for the course ,but what are you doing in the morning? Too much maybe,,,it’s all about pacing yourself, and as piglette says, rest, rest and more rest......certainly early days. It’s a new way of life, and you need to understand it.

Being that fatigued in the early afternoon is very common and it is your body telling you it needs a rest. Often if you preempt that and plan a rest before you expect to feel so tired, you get a lot more out of the day.

Does the pain go away late, especially if you have a rest?

Do the pains feel better after the nap? I had to have a 2 hour sleep every afternoon for a long time from the start. From about 10mg I had a bit less but still had to take things carefully. Then naps came back in a big way when on low doses with poor adrenal function.

After a nap pain not so bad still there but mainly just stiffness for a while. Maybe I am over doing in in the mornings when pred kicks in. I'll try and do less for next few days(not that easy when used to always doing something)and see if it still the same. Thanks all

If you are trying to get it all done in the morning that could well account for both the pain and the fatigue. You are still ill - the pred is only relieving the symptoms to allow a better quality of life. The actual disease is chugging away in the background, having a similar effect on your body to what real flu would cause.

Very good point. Because I feel my best in the morning, I try to do all the little chores, take Lily to the park etc.

I start on 1.5 to-day dowm half a mg. I have felt the afternoon tiredness from the very beginning on 20mg. After 2 plus years, I simply accept it and have a lie down, usually read but sometimes drowse ff for a while.:) Hope it gradually gets better for you.

This is when I go for my lovely nap. It buys me an evening as well. No point in fighting it.
