Where do I go from here?

After the problem with delay in receiving meds, this am I find I should take 2.5mgs Pred 3 daily and1tab Adcal -d3 twice daily. No phone call from surgery advising me of when to take them or should I take Adcal since I have been on prescription VitD for many years. I am so glad I had this forum to turn to and I know I will get the help I need here . Thank you all so much.

Pred should be taken as one dose early morning - preferably with/after breakfast - initially anyway. Adcal D3 lunchtime and evening - either suppertime or bedtime which is best for you.

You probably do need to check the VitD prescription idc - you don’t want to take too much.

Dorset Lady Thank you, 👍

You should be told this typed on the medicines from your pharmacist. If you use the on-line computer system for your surgery that would tell you too.

Hi Piglette. In a way it does, but had never seen anyone on the forum who took Pred in three doses, and also I have already been on prescription VitD for years. I am just being cautious perhaps, and stand to be corrected though.

Mmmm - but it depends on the doctor having put it right on the script!

Who on earth dreamed that up!!! It specifically says in the 2015 Recommendations that 7.5mg or less is too low, their recommendation is the lowest effective dose in the range 12.5-25mg.

Recommendation 3

All the various guidelines also say that the pred should be taken as a single dose in the morning.

At least they got the AdCal right as long as it is tablets not caplets! You are probably fine to take both the AdCal and your usual vit D - what dose do you take? The amount in AdCal is very small.

I was hoping to hear from you, and your comments are the same as Dorset Lady's regarding taking Pred in the am. Desusin 800IU one tab daily. The label on the boxes say" as directed by Rheumatology" and that's strange, never seen that before. My head can't work out all the possibilities but can't ring the surgery until Monday. Meanwhile, took the full dose of Pred much earlier.

In that case you are good with all the vit D - the one supplement that is worth it! I take 4000 IU a day, especially in winter.

I do hope 7.5mg pred works but I have my doubts. We'll see.

DL and I usually sing from the same hymnsheet ;)

I share your doubts since reading the 2015 report, but patient enough to wait and see. No point in ruffling feathers so early in my treatment.Hymnsheet? I had noticed.

I was told by the doctor to take 1000 IU per day - don't know whether to put it up.

I'm very much of the opinion we all need more in winter - and so is our local osteoporosis expert.
