Second Covid Vaccination

We had ours this morning Thursday 7th .We attended the same huge centre as last time the difference being...... more staff and stewards than patients. we walked straight in no waiting at all .Apparently because of the new rule 12 weeks wait instead of 3weeks patients had not turned up..........what a waste of Dr and nurses time.I did ring my GP yesterday to confirm our appointment and was told to go unless we received any other notification from NHS. If you have had your first jab and have a further appointment keep it unless you hear from NHS

Good advice, trouble is - people sometimes assume and don’t check!

Lucky you! I got a phone call this afternoon to postpone my second jab. Paddy

Dids they say how long you might have to wait? I think there is a fairly generous window actually but you must get the second shot within it.

that depends..politics is giving a generous window..12 weeks? as it does have a "feel good" and political point-scoring advantage to allow the max no of people who need the vaccine to partially have it.. but science is a tad concerned. Some immunologists are alarmed due to the possibility of mutations managing to develop immunity against the vaccine, which is more likely with many only having partial immunity if that is how it works out for the 12 weeks. (being unknown what partial immunity levels people will ave after 12 weeks with only one jab)

The tested window was 3 or 4 weeks I think..have the 2nd shot as soon as you can after 3 or 4 weeks and try to stay isolated between shots if possible so that the possibility of catching covid and developing a mutated - vaccine-resistant strain ..or passing one on is reduced (if it's possible.. who knows ?).

the problem is it's unknown and a needless risk that could kinda stuff it for the world for a while if it doesn't work out.. not to mention the people who get the jab and still get covid.. it is a problem anyway with a not fully tested vaccine, but politics is perhaps increasing the risk

I feel like deleting my post above after reading other posts on here which are giving some figures (though I have never seen them before) stating that there is almost the same level of immunity for 12 weeks.. if so, I retract above...but I really think those figures have not bee done as yet, and I really wish that they would test everyone for antibody levels at 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, ten weeks and twelve weeks (if left that long), and longer of left longer - so we do have the data for the future as, as far as I know, these figures have not as yet been obtained. I guess my concern is that with the rushing these figures were not obtained.. we now do have the opportunity to get them but it seems it is not being even thought of let alone mentioned...and if we did get the figures then IF there's a drop off in antibody levels, the policy would rapidly be changed and all those with the first injection isolated until they receive their second one...but it is not being offered...not politically popular and more difficult to do. The other thing that kinda scared the world a little was some suggestions made about injected ith a combo ..ie first dose of Pfizer and second dose of Astra Zeneca..without this being tested a viable (who know it may work.. just the unknown is scary)

To the best of my knowledge the work hasn't been done on this particular vaccine - so no-one can quote any 12 week figures relating to large numbers with controls. And the mix'n'match bit has been spoken about - emphasised as only for really exceptional cases, not the norm. But for either, as far as I know it is only the UK. Still not happy though!

Hi,Thanks for your reply. Actually no problem on this issue; they've got a twelve week window to give the second jab, which I confirmed with them. The date is in my diary, so will be followed up if necessary.

Meanwhile, I'm told I should have about 89% protection, which, if true, is fine.

All the best with your health issues.

Paddy

I'm still waiting for my first. Had a text in December asking consent and saying January for vaccination but have heard nothing yet. My neighbour and I (both in 80+ group) are at the same surgery and she has heard nothing either.

Thanks Jean , love to know how you feel over the next while..also did you have the Pfizer vaccine? I'm so relieved that at least some people over there are getting a timely (ie as tested) 2nd jab.
