Problem with Patient Access

maria40 profile image
26 Replies

I have just registered with Patient Access and can't get to my patient record, apart from medications and allergies. Getting through to GP surgery to query this is nigh on impossible at the moment. I suspect this may be because the practice doesn't allow full access but am not sure. Anyone had similar experience?

Hi Maria

You have to ‘apply’ for access to Blood Test Results, complete a form & wait for it to be authorised.

Is that what you wanted to access?

MrsN

They don’t allow everyone to see this option as it could cause more problems but for someone with a long term Chronic Condition like ours it’s invaluable....

Thank you for that Mrs N. I wanted to work out my cumulative dose of steroids over 20 years from my previous prescriptions but access to blood test results would be useful too.

Ah, OK - l’m not sure if Prescription Data will go back that far, l’ll check how far l can see on mine & let you know.

Angela

I’ve just checked & my history only goes back to November 2019

I can’t see they’ll input previous Prescriptions, as 20years ago we were still getting hand written ‘scripts.

Thank you for checking. It doesn't seem to be of great use really. I'd hoped that as it's so difficult to get through to GPs on the phone it would be helpful but, apart from showing my upcoming flu jab appointment, it's pretty blank and tells me that online appointments cannot be made at the moment. I also wanted to query that my prescriptions for Pred 1mg has been reduced so that when I reach a place in my reduction where I need to take 4x 1 mg per day they won't be sufficient - though all my pred is marked 'reducing course'. I've spoken to the pharmacy and they've said I should speak to the GP - chance would be a fine thing!

Write or Email the Surgery with your request for Pred & just show the Maths at the side 4x1mg Tablets x 28day = 112Tablets and what ever else you need 5mgs and/or 2.5mgs

That’s what l do if l don’t have enough or need more of a Specific Tablet.

Good Luck

MrsN

Thank you again.

Sometimes you simply have to draw a Map & point them in the right direction! 😉

I think prescription info goes back a year nowadays. Things went back quite far then Patient.co.uk upgraded the program and everything disappeared. It used to be really good and then they came up with this super new version which is rubbish.

Like most of the patient.info website innovations. They have as good as killed the PMRGCA forum there - you get no notifications except when someone replies to you personally. Nothing about new threads.

I think they have virtually killed every forum on there. It is now a total waste of space and they could have offered a really nice product. In fact they DID offer a really nice product!!

They did - and this forum and the charity wouldn't be here without them. And it isn't for lack of telling and user-feedback - always after the event though. And apparently it is too complicated to reverse changes. They must have the same IT advisors as the gubmint!

Hi Mrs Nails, this is so interesting - how do we apply? I use PA for prescriptions and just found my medical records empty. But it would be so useful to have sight of tests to keep a track of things as in this current climate I'm learning that no one else will!

Hi,

As you have already registered can you see what Options are available? You then need to request access to other sections such as Medical Records (which is a bit sparse) & Test Results which l use all the time.

I used to live in Wales on the borders & they used EMIS which was pretty good & very useful as living in a border town some Hospital Appointments were in Wales & others England, so l always had access to my own results & got copies where necessary.

Best Wishes

MrsN

Think I must have got lucky yesterday, I emailed my surgery and they emailed straight back my blood test results for the dates requested. My surgery also uses Patient Access, but the info available is "sparse" shall we say.

Thank you to everyone who replied to my query. Fortunately the receptionists at my surgery are pleasant and helpful -unlike those at my previous GPs - so I'll have to keep the phone on 'ring back' and try to talk to someone.

Just an update to my earlier post . I emailed the surgery to ask for info to be on PA and they said if I call into the surgery with Photo I'd. (you'd think they know me by now!!!) and fill in a form it will be sorted. Peter

Morning all, quick update, I got access to my records on PA last week, it was really easy in the end and only took a couple of days. Impressed with everything that is now available. Interestingly, for the first time I was able to see my blood test results for when diagnosed with PMR. My CRP was 131.4 and my ESR was 54mm/h.

Hope no-one suggested they were normal!!!!

No, unusually for some of the posts we see here, they rang me up that afternoon, told me I had PMR and I was on Pred that evening.

Yes. Think you have to ask your gp service first

Does your surgery not use the app “Ask my GP”. I find that works extremely well for any queries and making appointments. I’ve always had a reply the same day.

Mine is the same, and only of use, when it works, for repeat prescription ordering. My sister, in another local practice, can access all her records and test results. It should be standard across the country!

You normally have to fill in a consent form that is then approved by your GP. Maybe worth hanging onto the phone while you do a crossword to find out if there’s an online procedure you can follow. Good luck! 👍

Yes I had to fill in a consent form to see my blood results. Perhaps you could ask one of those nice receptionists to send you the form? On receipt of the form and approval from GP I was able to access after a few days. 💐

I have to click on 'Appointments' first then there is an option to see 'Patient records'. I can't see anything from the hospital though, the quaint old-fashioned system means letters from consultants are still posted to GPs then scanned in.
