How about some good news~!!!

First of all, since deleting some of my medications, my GFR blood test increased from 35 to 42, maybe not celebratory but in the right direction and I'm thankful for that.

Secondly, my son in Canada called last night and he and his wife talked it over and decided (that means no discussion or commiserating).....he is going to drive down to my place, 9 hours, and then he will drive me to Mass Eye and Ear of September 10...they want family present...how blessed am I. THEN, I will go back to Canada with him, he and I will quarantine from the family for two weeks...and I can see my grandchildren before I move to Indiana. What a joy.

They have even hired someone to pack me up completely for the move to Indiana.

This is why I can always still say I'm a very lucky lady~!!πŸ’–

What a wonderfully helpful and thoughtful family you have, your heart must be singing. I like the 'we decided' - you all obviously worked out each other's verbal signals way back, saves a lot of discussion! Lovely news for a lovely person :-)

Dear Grammy80, how wonderful for you to get to spend so much time with your family and especially your son during the quarantine period. I suspect the conversions you are going to have will deepen your bond and lift your spirits during these strange times. I wish you good new on the medical front and trouble-free move to Indiana.

You sure are lucky with the packing help. I am 79 and I am packing up a Townhouse prior to moving into an Independent Living apartment and I am exhausted. Fortunately, I am in remission for the past 3 years, but praying that the stress of this move doesn’t bring PMR back.

My best wishes to you. Go slowly...and rest! I couldn't really find a place here in Maine that I could afford and still not have additional expenses plus I have no family here at all. Don't overdue....my son and DIL (in Canada) made calls here in Maine and got someone from a moving company to do it by the hour? Maybe your could save the toughest parts for someone else. Good luck, it sounds like a smart and comfortable move. xo

PS, I'll be 80 next month...finally true to my avatar!

Btw, I am in Canada, and in Halifax, NS. Nova Scotia was Covid free for 11 days and then a case was found yesterday. My moving/packing troubles seem to be exacerbated by my husband seeming to be slipping a bit mentally. I have to oversee any job I give him so I can’t carry on with another chore. Might as well do it myself in the first place. Very upsetting. One has to wonder if his fogginess has been caused by the enforced isolation due to Covid. He will be 85 next month, but was very active, bowling, playing cards, and carpet bowling until everything ground to a halt. 80 for me next year. Unbelievable! Who me? Welcome to the Maritimes, hope all goes well. Mary🀭

So sorry to hear but try not to let the stress undermine your health. I don't think putting our minds and interactions with others on hold ~~ has served any of us well. Having family in Eastern Passage has made me so happy with the way they are handling the virus in Canada. xo

2 new cases today but all in the northern part of the Province. All travel related. The Maritimes has handled it better than any others, it seems. Nice chatting with you. Take care. πŸ’•

Please, Grammy80, ask your son to check border restrictions just before taking this trip. No doubt he, living in Canada , would be able to return home from the US providing he self quarantines , but for a US citizen/resident there are many question marks at the moment about crossing the land border from the US to Canada. I wish you and your family good luck with this.

Grammy80 profile image
Grammy80 in reply to readingbooks

Thank you so much for thinking of those things. My DIL works for the Canadian government...no special treatment!..but as a parent requiring some assistance I'll be allowed to cross with my son, no US citizens flying into any of the Maritime provinces except through Montreal. I will also have verification from my Doctor that I don't have Covid but will still be required to quaranteen for 2 weeks...with police checks! I will be allowed to fly out of Halifax, Nova Scotia however. πŸ˜‰Appreciate the thought.

I am very glad to hear that. I was concerned because, in the replies you received on the Forum there was no mention of this ( probably from UK ) and it wasn't clear from your original post . I have a daughter who has been juggling her life around the necessarily strict regulations concerning the US/Canada borders ( and used to work for Immigration ! ) . You will certainly have no problem flying home. It's the land border from the US that remains closed for now.( not just to the Maritimes ) It's good that the reasonableness you describe is being shown. Have a wonderful time.

Grammy80 profile image

You are absolutely right....and as a parent and grandmother, I'm thankful for Canada's strict and well-organized restrictions. It is funny....my DIL said the same thing...NO problem getting you OUT of Canada!! I don't blame them for sealing that border with Gorilla glue~! xo

Wonderful news Grammy. You have a thoughtful and loving son and family.

Hope the hospital appointment goes well. Great to spend quality time with your grandchildren before your house move.

So glad you have help with the move as moving can be exhausting. I moved house at the end of April! πŸ‘πŸ™‚
