Statins and PMR went into remission?

in reply to Runwell74

Ok. I was in statins in early 2001 called atorvastatin and after a year or two had arm pain so swapped to another and was fine. I made the decision to stop statins due to research on statins in relation to women. So stopped last year. I noticed a clearer brain at first but no ease of PMR and in fact flared last year.

In what respect in particular?

If statins have caused you muscle pain - then that should reduce.

Simvastatin - read the side effects.

Just looked at this again and realised I should have added, one of the common ones:

'Muscle pain, muscle damage, or muscle weakness'.

Sorry for being absent minded some times.

Only where the PMR was an adverse effect of the statin. It is thought that it some people it may be caused by simvastatin and atorvastatin in particular - but many people have PMR without ever having been on a statin. I had had it for some years before I was given a statin. Within days I was far worse, differently worse though, and I stopped taking atorvastation after about 10 days - but the PMR hasn't gone away although it is much better than then.

I’ve switched to using Red Yeast Rice in place of pravastatin. Brain is clearer and less pain in shoulders.

My husband who has recommended it to his patients as a Physician Assistant of 37 years set me up to use it. I have to trust his knowledge. I'll speak to him about your question. thanks

My husband said it has the same activity but not the same ingredients of a statin and therefore it doesn't have the same side effects as a man made statin. I'm taking 600mg of Red Yeast Rice daily.
