Nice little verse for us now, when not feeling as robust as we might. John Donahue Poet and Priest, from his Benedictus book of blessings..

Thank you Jane. I heard him read this on BBC yesterday; it was very moving.

"This is the time to be slow,

Lie low to the wall

Until the bitter weather passes.”

Thanks Jane. I love these lines. They remind me of an Emily Dickinson poem.

Just got my "self isolate" for 12 weeks letter from my GP yesterday!

Better knowing and tbh we havnt had a problem. We are indoors because of OH being vulnerable despite us only being 56. My pmr isnt an issue but it makes me safer still. Its been quite cathartic just pottering around at our own speed knowing there isnt any rush to do anything. We are lucky that we are not alone and that our daughters have been dropping in shopping (i knew they would be useful eventually!!) Husband has been kept busy making me garden planters out of old pallets and i have supervised of course.

I hope you are able to just relax and catch up on more enjoyable things.x YBB

It's very tempting to tackle projects, but I'm going to pass along a piece of advice that's making the rounds on this side of the pond:

DON'T DO DUMB STUFF!

As in hefting things that are too heavy, using sharp objects if you are not an expert, walking on uneven surfaces, letting yourself be distracted when using the stove or the oven, being inattentive while driving...

Hospitals and medical staff have enough to do right now. Do your part and proceed with caution.

Tapering started Monday 3.5/4 alternate days. Thought I’d continue on downward trajectory during quieter days at home. Thoroughly enjoying it but hub who is isolating restless. I do online belly dance with friends Monday (kitchen), online Pilates - best room to be established but hard on hips - Charleston on Thursday starts, I’ve done card craft, completed a jigsaw in two days and played ukelele with hub. I’ve had some great dog walks too. I’m working from home three mornings and go out to shop once a week. I also cook more and support autistic daughter in her home (I don’t go in but she comes out for a walk twice a week so far). Shopping though can be fraught as hub eats anything, I eat gluten free, and daughter is allergic to eggs milk cheese and nuts! That’s my only stress point! Trying to keep things the same for my daughter in a world that has instantly changed! Hope everyone else is coping. I’ve seen a free course on nutrition - but it’s a work day and I’m soon to start with my daily Chris Packham live stream! Stay sane - stay safe everyone!

I had a thickish soft gym mat for floor exercises, think it may have been IKEA - thin enough to not be wobbly but the usual gym mat was too hard for the trochanteric bursitis. Using 2 or 3 worked better though.

Have you a link for the chris packham live? We could include it as a link for things to do. I for one would enjoy it. YBB

Dont worry if not i will have a search myself. I didnt even know he was doing anything but love all his work. I got the chance to work with him many years ago as a dive on an environment project and was instantly a fan. x YBB

FYI - I received the email below from my GP, this morning. I had queried what the criteria was (and who made decision) ultimately determining who is considered a vulnerable person and/or one who should be 'shielding.' I pointed out, in my email, that I had numerous health issues other than PMR & GCA. Well, persistence pays off... sometimes. Other times it just gets you in trouble. 🤷🏻‍♀️

**********************************************************************************

Dear Mrs XXXXXXX,

Thank you for your email. The "vulnerable" patient list is open to interpretation, and the criteria have only been released for GPs recently so that we can ascertain people's risk status. Having reviewed the list I believe you do fall within the vulnerable patient categories, in view of what is called multi-morbidity. I have added your name to the list.

Hi

I spoke to my GP yesterday as received no letter

Just being on 10mg Steroid's a day plus HA attack last year put me in Shielding group .

So house bound at present but I have lots to do .

Take Care

in reply to Rose54

Wow... good on you for double checking!

in reply to Rose54

Have you filled in the online register. You may not need food parcels, but it puts you as priority for supermarket deliveries and meds etc. Is your mum ok ?

Hi

Mums fine thank you my Brother spends most of his time with her and does her shopping and takes her Dog for a walk .I phone her every day and My Son Pops up and sits in her hall so he's not in the same room and haves a chat.

Makes sure he cleans door handles behind him .

I haven't registered as I have my Son will go shopping for me and line is suppose to be only for those who have no one to help them.

We have a Lidl 10min walk away and he's going down once a week as soon as thay open so far not been at all busy in thier .

Hes trying to isolate as much as possible and we can keep the recommended distance at home .

Involves lots of detour around the dinning room table

I was lucky as had freezer well stocked as I batch cook foods to freeze and I always keep a store cupboard .

Manged to order a big on line delivery although have to wait for 3 weeks but did it for Mum as well .

I do find it hard when someone else shops for me as I am a browse and pick things up as I see them .

Hope you are managing ok

And thank you for all the info you are posting

in reply to Rose54

It's a back up for you all that's all. You don't have to use it. I took notice of what was happening and pmrpro s words about what was going in italy, so I got a few extra things in..6 tins of various pulses! Got in a veg box rota and am a week from my Tesco delivery that has gone from 40sonething to 120ish due to goods being changed made unavailable and 4 weeks at least passing since I ordered it. Hopefully that'll be it for a few weeks. But hopefully I can get meds delivered which was my concern.

I am glad your son can spend a bit of time with your mum. What is she like with technology...can she facetime or whatever? Mind you I hate it. 🤣😂🤣

Stay safe and dancing round the table distancing can be your daily exercise. Music twice a day with everything moving that can fit me!! Stay safe .

Rose54 profile image
Rose54 in reply to

Take Care

Hope your delivery turns up soon

My Mums a nightmare doesn't even have a phone not even a landline

My brother has plugged his into electric socket and when i phone it goes to answer and I have to say Mum its Rose pick up the phone and then she's ok.

We have a number we can phone for the local council if anyone need help with shopping or anything .

I have 4 months worth of Meds and the Chemist will deliver if I need them to

in reply to Rose54

How did you get 4 months worth?? Seems so sensible.

Rose54 profile image
Rose54 in reply to

I always get 2 months at a time

But last October I was going away so ordered them early as due while I was away

on my on line meds I noticed for the next 2 orders thay put the wrong date to reorder giving me a 2 month supply but able to order monthly so I took advantage of that

in reply to Rose54

I will have to see if I can't have a mistake....

I'm a 'browser' too. I DO miss buying my own groceries, etc.

Rose54 profile image
Rose54 in reply to PMRpro

I would settle for anything to be honest as long as I am able to make a cake with them

I have a dear friend who is rational in most ways, but does have a tendency to believe in conspiracy theories. We had to agree to disagree about her conviction that COVID-19 was deliberately cooked up in a lab somewhere. This article in Medical News Today explains how the virus evolved naturally and is definitely not man-made:

medicalnewstoday.com/articl...

There are plenty of other useful articles about COVID-19 on the MNT site.

in reply to Marijo1951

There are some wild ideas like 5G, the meteorite that fell 2000 miles or something away last year...🤪 Though I did "like" the idea of it coming from deep space.

The Handmaids Tale, a book, film and TV series about a dystopian society set in the fictional country of Gilead. You may need to google it as its probably passed you by in Italy :) xxx

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to S4ndy

Have never read it, have read a lot her stuff but not seen it on offer on Kindle!!

in reply to S4ndy

Not my cup of tea. I preferred another book on dystopian futures on similar issues, but it's 30 yrs ago and it's slipped my mind. If I get sleep it'll be a 3 in the morning remember.

Not sure I want to read dystopian at the moment...a good zombie film🤦🏼‍♀️. 😱

That's big pharma...there's not one that doesn't do a bit if patent and contractual dealing to increase revenue.

Last evening I spent an hour on a Zoom meeting with my little grand daughters who are 7 1/2 and the twins are almost 6. It was so wonderful to see their bright faces. It was be such a help to do it often to help this grandma get through these days of separation. I’m much happier now!

I have just been called by the company who have been given the task of telling us we are top of the food and meds list if we are shielded vulnerable.... apparently the government have handed over the details so you ring the supermarket or pharmacy if you can't get a slot....and I was assured as a shielded person I should be dealt with as a priority.

Obviously I was suspicious that a 0333 or some number popped up. But he used my name and just asked if I had filled in the form on the gov website and told me that I can have help from the local council....mmm get house cleaned and garden cleared?? No other personal details.
