No Wedding Gifts, Donations Only 😊

I'm getting married on 8th of August this year. It will be a fairly large affair, with many guests. We are both 54 and have too much in our house already. We've decided not to accept wedding presents, cards or flowers but to raise funds instead for the charity. It's helped me so much during my journey so far. I registered at the Virgin Money giving page, but need some help with how to collect etc. at the wedding itself.

Congratulations! The officiate made the announcement at a wedding we went to and money/ cheques were collected, like a church collection plate. I think they raised a lot for the Lifeboat Society. Some of the men were volunteers. There was someone at the door on the way out collecting too. It could be done at the reception too and incorporated into someone’s speech. Charities themselves will advise.

What a lovely and generous thought.

If you are sending out invitations perhaps you could include the details there, advising about Virgin page, but also saying donations can be brought to whatever venue is most appropriate.

If you have an Usher or someone who could then be responsible for

collating donations that would be simplest thing to do.,

Oh, and congratulations ❤️

We thought maybe one of those special buckets with a slot at the bar of the reception in the evening.... people will have their wallets out and be more inclined to pop a bit in when slightly tipsy.

That’s a good idea.

Julie, congratulations on your forthcoming wedding and thank you so much for choosing to ask people to donate instead of gifts. You've had some good advice already - certainly let people know in the invitations - tell them about how the charity has helped you and direct them to your Virgin Money giving site. We might be able to send you a collection tub and some leaflets if you'd like. Do you want to send me an email? I'll message you with contact details.

Since the advent of credit/debit cards and online bank accounts, and their huge popularity, collecting money 'in person' has become a major logistical challenge, hasn't it? Can I just make a little plea on behalf of the tiny group of old codgers, like me, who are not totally converted yet.

You've got cash covered but I guess it's possible that one or two of your older friends may still use cheques, so, somehow you need the information, about who to make a cheque out to, to be available to everybody - just in case. (Assuming the charity does still accept cheques!)

Oh - and congratulations!

Of course! Thank you very much. I had forgotten about cheques.

Congratulations! My nephew had a small postbox and envelopes next to the Guest book at his wedding. So when you wrote a message in the guest book, you also had the opportunity to make a donation by way of gift.

Hope this helps xxx

Ooh good plan. We also thought a small donation for earplugs as the band at the reception will be quite loud 😁😁
