Sickness and diarrhoea- what do I do about my tablets please?

Oh dear , I’ve kicked off the new year in a bad way ! I’ve been up since about 3 am and can’t keep anything - not even sips of water down . I guess I’ve caught a gastric bug , unless I’m having my first flare ! I’ve had my flu jab . Everywhere aches , particularly my shoulders and I’m shivering . What should I do about my drugs? I’m on 9.5 mg prednisone and normally take it at 8 am on the dot . Thank for any advice .

I was the same on Monday but no sickness

took my meds a little later than normal and hoped for the best

same aching feeling as you .Rested all day and was fine yesterday .

Being late or missing a single dose shouldn't be a problem - except maybe the aches will be even worse. If you can keep the tablets down for an hour you should have absorbed most of it so if you feel better later you could try then.

Having the flu jab doesn't protect you from all viruses, just the ones it contains, and not even 100% from the ones it does contain, it just preps your immune system to meet it in real life and react more quickly. So you CAN still get flu - just less worse, it is hoped.

Try a tablespoonfull of brandy............settles the stomach down.

If you have D&S then add a tablespoonful of Port.

Mix them together and they taste horrible - but it works.

Oh Katie, that’s horrible, hope you feel better soon.

Take Pred as soon as you stop being sick as Pro says if you can keep it down for an hour you should absorb most of it.

Poor you. Hope it passes quickly. I had pretty dramatic d&v just after Christmas, too. I was worried about my pred but was also assured that if I could keep them down for an hour, I’d get most of the benefit. In fact, I waited until I was over the nausea, about 1pm and then took it and was fine.

Thanks for the advice , everyone . I was still throwing up at 1pm so I rang the GP and she prescribed Buccastem M Buccal tablets to stop the vomiting and they worked so I managed to keep my prednisone down .

Thank you for asking . Thank goodness the anti- sickness drug worked and I kept the prednisone down . My GP told me to go to A&E otherwise and have it intravenously . Phew ! For a while I had visions of me walking in with my face in a bucket 🤢🤮. I feel 100% better today but very weak and can’t eat anything so it’s a day in bed with my puppies 💕💕

I’m glad the Anti-sickness Tablets worked, as you say turning up in A&E 🤢 with a bucket is not a good look 😳

Rest, Rest, Rest to build your strength up, l had Noro Virus 🦠 once (on a ship) & l was rushed to their Medical Centre for the same reason but by about 10.30am l was able to tolerate the Prednisolone.

I’m back on 15mg MTX & l’m grounding myself for January to give it time to kick in, apart from having Charlotte one day next week & really she’s a great tonic anyway & so funny.

I was planning to work on the Family Tree but l can’t find the File as we’ve been upgraded to Windows 10 so it’s a question of searching the back up devise!.....

Nothing is ever straightforward 😉

I hope it didn’t ruin your cruise . I’ve cancelled my daughter and boyfriend coming home for the weekend.

No, I was over it in 24hours, so no problem & No Charge!.......

‘Found’ the CD Box sitting where it should be in the cabinet with the Old Photos so Terry’s reloaded it & the file contents just jumped into it, so I’m back up n running!

The Tree I’m doing is for the Boys but isn’t easy as the surname is Edwards & every male for generations was called John(Jack) or Robert so helpful, not 😉

I also have to disassemble my Mannequin Christmas Tree, as to where that’s going to live is another story.........

Thank you . Yes I think it probably was a 24 hour thing. I did wonder if it could have been the oysters I scoffed on NYE but I had other flu like symptoms and a temperature and I started to feel ill a long time after I’d eaten them .

At least my 2020 diet has got off to a good start !
