Hi folks

This may be a coincidence, but I bought a pumpkin just after Halloween for 10p so decided to try it. I heard it is good for the immune system. I used the flesh in lots of soups and it did make me feel better. I still need the steroids but am tapering back down after a recent flare up. I might add this to my regular diet. Any thoughts.

Any squash or must it be pumpkin? I eat roast butternut squash at least 2x weekly, sometimes more. It's kurbis season at present - risotto, raviolis, gnocchi ...

It may not boost the system so much as help regulate it, which we do want. :)

It is delicious. Not sure re immune system remember the trick is not to boost immune system as it over active to start while. But most food make minimal difference and whatever makes you feel good.

I've been eating 1/3 cup raw organic pumpkin seeds for breakfast for some years now, but the vegetable always seems so hard to deal with.

Every little bit of Self Care helps , and at 10p , what a bargain.

Have you thought about roasting off the seeds in the oven with some seasonings and a little oil , it's worth trying and they make a tasty nibble.

As long as you balance your carbs , things like these vegetables can do you good , body and soul.

If you feel better , keep it up , and as Pro says you can use butternut squash too.

My neighbours mum sent me a bag of seeds from her garden to grow next year. I keep eyeing them in the drawer thinking oven for you! But I will resist......for now. Had my sprouting alfalfa and radish seeds in stir fry instead.

I think you have to eat ones from your own veg or " food grade," ones , although I have often wondered while eyeing up a gardeners packet of sunflower seeds .

I don't think they are different except where they keep them , either that or my Grandad would just said , " don't eat the growing seeds!" to stop us eating his vegetables before they had even grown!! 😋😂😂😂

They were from her crop. She has very green fingers and can grow anything. I am already trying to get some weeds out if the garden ready to put some raised beds. 💚🤣🤣🤣

I left some peas to dry up and was eyeing up seeds at the local wholefood place.

I was about to say that's ultimate Pacing Poops if you were starting the weeding in December for planting in May ( flipping heck it's December !!!! No , Bee don't even think about it ) .

I love sprouting for eating , there are so many different sprouts you can do at home now . My only growing effort this year apart from sproutings was lettuce and pea sprouts , I have winter ones still growing to " pick as I grow " on the porch window sill . Keep those vitamins up!

I may have said this somewhere... It would be typical so apogies b4 I do.... I had tempeh stir fry which was fresh, alfalfa sprouts, pea shoots, rainbow chard, pak choi, and buckwheat noodles. I am having the same tonight but with a peanut butter sauce tonight., 😋😛🤓

It was. I usually buy frozen tempeh, but apparently they have found an. Indonesian woman who is now making fresh tempeh. Marinate in garlic and ginger with soy or cyder vinegar. With all the organic veg (forgot the purple sprouting broccoli in the list ) it was delish. 🌈😋

Yes, I boiled and roasted the seeds in oil. They were ok on cereal, but I find them a bit chewy. I will still eat them as I believe they do some good. Enjoy.

You can put them in hot water then rub in a teatowel to help hull the harder part of their skin that makes them chewy . Most shop bought ones have been part peeled or hulled which is why they can be crispier . Less or no oil and a low temperature also helps with getting crispy nuts and seeds.

Yes they are basically "fat" so much better dry roast... I may rub oil on and off just to stop sticking if I decide to be naughty and flavour with literally a dash of soy sauce or shoyu or tamari or really really naughty... Yeast extract. You really need a solid stomach for that!

Yes. The good thing is you don't need many. I love them on salad or topping a stir fry. I got vegan style fish sauce but I can't tell the different in the finished article of stir fry so that was a waste.

I do some sweet ones for porridge with a little splash of vanilla and some maple syrup or powdered fruit sugar instead of oil too
