I felt awful this morning. Headache one side along with eye ache and lots of aches. Called my GP and he saw me right away. Referred straight the medical assessment unit and am in for the night. Had lots of tests including eyes which are ok.
My blood sugar levels are up to 8.9 and blood pressure is high...
The worst part of all this has been a guy talking about his every bowel movement with pride. Lol

Don't take the hospital food lightly... Prob high carb like the man flying in the USA and the ordered "diabetic" meal contained mainly roast potato's and mashed potatoes.
Don't think you can take the NHS hospital food lightly ( even if you wanted to !!)
From my experience after you eat it , it sits in your stomach like a brick , which was never a good thing on the days I have spent on the Gastric Ward , no wonder they are all chatting about bowels !😋😂😂😂

.... and now my most embarrassing moment......I went to pick my OH up from Rugby VIP lunch some years ago. I spotted my ex neighbour so went up to him...... How lovely to see you.....How are the kids.... Do you see them often...... blah, blah.
On the way home nearly ran the guy over (he was walking along middle of unmade road, in drunken stupor with some mates.
I said to my husband 'Look at John! He's obviously had a good time!' 'Who's John?' OH asked. ' you know John? He used to live next door.... was married to Jan.......'
' Marilyn I don't believe you', OH said. 'That is Ross Kemp! He plays for Brentwood.'(The opposition that day). 'No, ' I exclaimed.'it can't be!'
'Yes it is', was hubby's response.
' But he answered all my questions about the kids and Jan!'........
I always used to tell John's wife how much John looked like Ross Kemp!

Now, now David! I know you are feeling poorly but you are surely not in danger of devaluing the importance of bowel movements as an integral and central part of the cycle of life are you? Surely not? In my experience colour, texture, consistency and frequency becomes central to conversations of even the most intelligent of parents with newborns and, it seems, the cycle of life returns us to this highly important topic (of conversation) later in life. Interestingly I have however observed that during the intervening years, for some reason, the subject of poo takes a back seat! (BACK SEAT Ha, ha 
:)!).......

Forgot. Liz and I are booked onto a cruise next week and I don’t think I will be able to go. Luckily we have Barclays travel insurance. Right now the very thought of bouncing around in the Bay of Biscay doesn’t sound too wonderful.

I'm still in the hospital and hoping to be discharged shortly. I am on the cancer ward as this was the first bed that was available. This has been quite upsetting and last night I found myself sat with an 81 year old gent who was really emotionally upset so I sat for a couple of hours consoling him til he went to sleep. I swear Oxy is causing his problems.
Wife is at home packing for our cruise and we have decided to do a healthy cruise and not trough too much with a visit to the gym everyday. Hope you guys are well. D x

13 mg. I snuck myself up to 15mg and feel way better. I must tell the doctor now!
If it is any consolation, the medical assessment units or most medical wards are full of patients with dementia so VERY noisy and you run the risk of someone wanting to join you in your bed! Oncology may be a bit depressing but probably is a tad more sane!
I'm in a regular ward . I got moved out of MAU on Saturday as I managed to make the local MPs etc jump and got something moving that needs doing in the hospital. So the Chief Executive upgraded me and I managed to get a little round of applause from the lovely staff for my actions. More on that later. 😀

My daughter is a nurse and was working Bank - was often on MAU and her colleagues begged her to apply for a permanent job but she couldn't face being tied to a ward where the staff were regularly in tears of frustration during a shift. Hope you helped dry some of those sort of tears.

Mad as hatters if you ask me! I worked in the NHS but not at the coal face. OH saw the occasional patient latterly - left because it was too much admin and not enough diagnostics. Both daughters chose it - the other one is a paramedic, transferred from pre-hospital to emergency medicine now though,

How did they respond? I'd have been sorely tempted to tell him to go back to smoking and he wasn't getting the inhaler either... Man up and take some responsibility people!

I was discharged on Tuesday I've been a bit tired and sorry for not posting an update. We are going on the cruise..... very excited (ish) We have decided on a a "healthy cruise" with lots of walking onboard, gentle weights in the gym and very low food consumption. My GCA "scores" are good but blood sugar and blood pressure very erratic.
I was on a cancer ward at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and it was quite moving and I ended up helping patients who needed something.... even consoling a lovely 81 year old man who was on oxy and very emotional.
I'm going to be working on stabilising my blood pressure and blood sugar over the next few months.
The NHS never ceases to amaze me.

Glad you’re home & the Cruise is still on, they do adapt well in the Resturant, see the Maître’D on the first evening or when you get on board, tell them you need a diabetic diet & there’s always the healthy options available anyway......
