HELP!!!

Moderators, anyone - is there any way I can remove the photo I sent to Scats a few days ago?

I am so sorry to have forced this photo on so many on the forum. I just wanted to let Scats know that even "oldies" "not so slim" people can look good in casual gym wear. I had NO idea my mug would be splashed over the forum for so long. I tried to send the photo to Scats only but it didn't work.

My humble apologies to everyone. I will never put a personal photo on the forum again. I promise!

Don't distress your self Constance, everyone loved it! there was lots of praise you should be proud. I was very grateful for your concern. On the strength of it I have managed to find some trousers to fit, of a kind I had never known to look for before. So thankyou!

It has been said several times that it would be nice to be able to share photos in messages and it has often stopped me sharing one.

Thanks Scats! I felt SO embarrassed!

Glad you found something to suit you.

Don't feel embarrassed we're all friends here. I'm sure the mods will remove it if you can't. xx

Look at the bottom of the post along the line of boxes with the Reply and Like buttons. You’ll see on the right hand end a great More. Click on the arrow and you get a drop down list of choices. Delete is one of them.

If you want a post to be for one person only, use the private messaging facility that you can find on the recipient’s page. I tried to send a photo once by this method and I’m not sure you can.

Thanks Snazzy - I think I've done it!👍

Great. For the record, I’m in agreement with others who say the photo was fine and made a good point that was relevant to the post. It was also a positive post that might have helped others step out of their comfort zone and enter a gym. Plus, as always others don’t see see what you do!

Constance, I hope you did NOT manage to delete that lovely

picture of yours. It made my day. To see a fellow octogenarian to look so well and cheerful despite all the pain you are going through is nothing more than encouraging. You should actually put it back . Yes. And all the best to you for the future. Hugs from Umufu (Sigrid) x

Yes, I think that is the issue , it isn't possible to send photos via Private Messages as far as I can see ( and have tried) which has often meant many of us have had to put up a post to send something in picture form which might have been ' off topic' and accidentally caused an increase in non PMR traffic that we may not have intended.

Obviously , we could choose to pass on photos via email instead , but not everyone would want to pass on contact details in that way with people that they haven't met , or don't talk to often , just to send a quick , kind photo message , as we all like to take care of our internet privacy.

It is probably a thing that HU as a whole could help us out with by making sending photos on PM possible or at least easier if it exists.

in reply to Blearyeyed

I haven't found a way but still exploring.

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to

It's definitely an update on PM that HU service could do with updating to make the system more user friendly for all . And reduce the amount of posts , not just on our forum , but more often on others when we feel a photo can help elaborate on our questions or add help to our advice much more clearly than a description.

in reply to Blearyeyed

Yes it would. The only thing I can think off is to put it as your profile picture and let the person know via pm. A bit like the space hopper with ybb. 🤣🤣🤣

Once shared it can be changed back.

I know , but then that becomes a pain as many people look out for your familiar avatar on here to see if you are up and about , or to work out if you have replied ( especially if you are an Ambassador / Moderator or Regular Contributor ) . Some of us took a year to get around to personalising our profiles with photos because of Brain Fog and Fatigue , so having to swap a photo back and forth would become like a fly you just can't swat!😋😂😂😂

Plus , some of us poor souls with bleary eyes , from one thing or another find it hard to see the details in the tiny profile picture .

The other day when YB , put up a photo of her grandson proudly showing off his martial arts achievements ; there was a red van behind . In his resting stance , with the colours and van, for a moment I thought she had put up a photo of a butcher and had to really squint to understand the truth. My flipping eyesight !!😋😂😂😂

But, it does prove that if the reason that you put up a photo was to help show something to someone a picture that a person with affected vision can't see the fine details on won't do the job.

It doesn't improve when you try and put it on the larger banner because of the way the photo function chooses to cut and display a whole photo that you put up . My skeleton , for example, is displayed neatly when put on an avatar , but sliced in half if I try it on the banner.

I wonder if there is any way that as a forum we could put in a request to HU to improve their private messaging system for all of it's site users to make it possible to add photos or links onto our private messages , to improve our ability to communicate with our forum friends , without needing to add a post to all to be able share with a specific person.

Perhaps we could get other forums to request the same and succeed in numbers😁

in reply to Blearyeyed

I suspect the pm won't have pictures allowed as obviously ANYTHING can be posted in private then.

True! Rather scary.

in reply to Constance13

Yes. I was going to see if it could gather momentum but had a sudden flash (no pun intended 🤭) and thought about some of the transient people who try to use it as a "dating" site every so often.

Blearyeyed profile image
Blearyeyed in reply to

Yes , that is an argument against it , but you do have the ability to report any PM you get if it isn't appropriate .

But , then again , it returns to the same argument in the Replying to Posts issue , yes , you can report it or complain directly and the sender / replier can remove something hurtful and apologise , but it doesn't change the fact for the recipient that after being seen or read the distress is already done .

If it's hard enough for site moderators to keep control of how people act or talk in public posts and increases their workload dealing with complaints , imagine the amount if extra Stress and Workload dealing with reports on PMs could create.

Its a matter to think on.....😮

Yes , it is a shame , the bad behaviour of the few often means it makes Life more difficult for the Many , but still there could be a way , I will get my thinking cap on

( it's very fetching!😋)

If you can load into a folder in cloud drive and share. I have always used email shares but I presume you can share with other passwords.

Your photo was fab - you look great - and the post was completely in context following on from the previous thread about what Scats should wear to the physio. I enjoyed the thread and am glad to hear that Scats has now found something appropriate to wear. Win win!! I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you but if you’re uncomfortable you can delete it as Snazzy has said. But you gave us all a few laughs with the thread you started which we all need from time to time! 😂

It was great constance. Please don't worry. A lot of good info in the thread. It encouraged me to check the times if the local pool. Found out its changing boilers so no swimming🤪

Oh, Constance please don’t worry, it was a great photo & you looked amazing.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to send a photo privately or in a reply.

Honestly, no one minded at all & it was totally in context to Scats Question.

Take Care

I loved the phto too Constance - it really fitted in and as you see, someone learned about clothing that I suspect isn't as obvious tp our generation in the UK as it is in Germany.

I think it may be me rather than the UK in general. I do tend to live in my own little bubble a lot of the time.

The actual post and replies that came from you posting the photo were really interesting so it would be a shame to take it down entirely.

You could just remove the photo itself if you don't want to leave it up by going on your post , choosing to edit it , when you go to the photo section it has a tab to press stating , remove photo , press it , the photo will be removed then press the done button and the post can remain .

You look great in the photo but I understand that it was necessity that made you put it up publically and you may not want it to remain.

I understand you enjoy your anonymity , but it was a great photo to see , you looked amazing , and I'm sure while it was up it gave many on our journey a lot of positive hope for the future , so thanks for giving us a chance to see it for a few days xx

That was an inspiring photo Constance. You look very appropriate for the gym and lots of us worry about what to wear to the gym, Pilates, yoga etc.

It is a mild thing to be out there Ask HRH Andrew.

Loved your photo. As another 80’s I felt complete kinship. “ here we are and looking fine in our own skin and comfortable in it and it’s covering. 🤗

We're lucky!💐💐

Do understand your discomfort about picture spreading. Our generation did not grow up having that ease in showing pix of ourselves to so many and strangers, as the younger do now. Not sure if I’m expressing this right. Anyhow, I hear you.
