Neck irritation

Been on prednisone for approximately two months and doing well with little in the way of side affects. However I do have a slightly swollen neck but it is the irritation in it that is driving me mad.

What sort of irritation? That is a new one on me!

Just like a little sore and slightly swollen. Difficult to describe but I keep touching it. More under the chin area of the neck.

Sounds likes a gland. Teeth ok? Developing a cold or sore throat?

No everything fine.

Could it be a bit of fat deposit from pred (around the neck is a common site) that is making jewellery or necklines catch?

Too high up directly under the chin.

I have a swollen neck, around necklace line, though it doesn’t cause irritation. I recognise it as fatty prednisolone deposits as people have reported. Hopefully this will disappear along with the moonface when dosage reduces.

Hope so.

Is there anything to see? Redness? dryness? Oozing? Or nothing visual.

Outside the box guess: thrush in skin crease???

I have been on Pred since Aug-18. started at 45 mg then up to 60 mg and have been doing a slow taper since. Currently on 25 mg. I too have had a lot of irritation throughout, not just my neck also face . It is usually accompanied by redness and heat and often occurred in the evening.

I have raised it on the forum but o one has been able to explain it for me and I am relieved it is lessening as the dose is reducing.

I have even questioned if I am allergic to pred. (I am very allergic to a lot of meds, toiletries and cosmetics, chemicals but food ok) Dr did not say yes but did not disagree either.

No easy way of pred so have just had to keep going. I hope it improves for you soon.

Have you asked your doctor about it? Just for piece of mind.

I checked rosacaea - which can be caused by pred and which normally affects the centre of the face. However it does occasionally affect the chin:

I had and still do have the same pain you describe. Sort of throat neck swelling situation. Hard to swallow? Pain in jaw etc. started when I got on 20 Mg of pred and now I’m on 5 and it’s still there, but a bit better.
