Looking for advice

I have been slowly reducing my Rayos and doing pretty good. I am down to 12mg from 15mg from December. 2 nights ago I woke in incredible pain in my hip, knee and leg. I could hardly move. I increased my rayos to 14mg then to 15mg before I got any relief. Last night the same thing happened. Last night I took 14mg and think I will take another 1 mg this morning. How long does everyone think I should remain at 15mg.

I have not been over doing it, no new stress except I do have a small fracture in my foot.

The only thing I can think may have been the problem is; I have had nausea and diarrhea for 4 days. Possible stomach flu. I wonder if I wasn't getting all the rayos in me? Do you think some got flushed out (no pun intended) and now I have to catch up?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Could well be that you weren’t getting full benefit of dose plus of course any additional illness etc adds stress to your body. So double whammy really.

Stay at 15mg for a few more days and see if that sorts things - hopefully if it does you should be able to drop back down to 12mg without problems.

I had a rough time when I had nausea and diarrhoea. Gastrointestinal hurry is likely to impede absorption.

I didn't do anything out of the ordinary, it was a stress fracture They can just happen with the slightest movement. I am very concerned as this is my second one plus a stress fracture in my back. I guess I have no choice but to find a medication that I can live with.

Hi - I wound up in hospital after a fierce bout of gastro enteritis. I was told to take an extra 5mgs for three days afterwards. This is partly to compensate for the extra cortisone the kidneys produce to fight infection, and of course ours is controlled by the amount of Pred we take. My GP has also told me to notify him if I’m throwing up for two days as I would then have to go to hospital for a steroid injection. We have to be very careful with our adrenals and a sudden stoppage of Pred can be dangerous. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for the reply. I would never have thought about going to emergency for prednisone.

There was a bit more to it. I’d called the doc for advice about keeping down the steroids. There must have been something in my voice because a GP came round to discover I had a temperature of 40 degrees, plummeting blood pressure and heart palpitations! None of which had I registered! I was rushed off to A&E, given oxygen, steroid injection etc etc. Right as rain the following morning and went home. Bonkers - but did pick up the tips I’ve passed on and now have a thermometer to hand to check my temp and know what to do if I start throwing up. Also an expert on post nausea diet. I blame my grandchildren. Sorry this is so long winded! 😀
