Prednisone is metabolised by the liver into prednisolone. In terms of dosage there is no difference.

Don't see why there would be? Are you moving?

Yes

If anything the prednisolone is probably slightly better because it's all ready to go, doesn't need the liver to process it first!

There are different adverse effects ?

No, I think everything else is pretty much the same. Just that when you take prednisolone there's one less step for your body to have to take. In the end we are all using prenisolone, because that's what the liver turns our prednisone into.

Hey, we're all in this together! Hope your move goes well and your pred journey continues well, too.

There may be - I had no problems with prednisolone and now none with prednisone. Inbetween I was on methyl prednisoone - that I found awful! But even different brands of the same substance can cause different side effects in the same person.

I know this is old but relevant to me.

Iwas switched from prednisone to methyl pred.

I thought I was crazy, because it is awful..

Affected my bp and heart rate, and gi .

Starting with a new rheumi..

Been on for 3.5 years. started with Pmr. got pred down to 2 then hit with lung sarcoidosis

things resolved pretty well on 20 the decreases were difficult

Saw Sarcoid spec. who felt I had pred toxicity and we came down, switching to methly pred

Now at two, feeling like PMR symptoms back and but if go up to 4 all other neg things I mentioned above.

return.

She is impossible to get ahold of , tells me to call but never calls back, so I am by the recommendation going to new Dr, though it will be telephonic so thinking that will be tough with my complicated hx.

There are days I wonder if this is an adrenal issue...thoughts?

I'd love an explanation as to why someone with pred toxicity would do better on methyl pred.

Prednisilone is what you get in the UK and prednisone is what you get in the USA. I could be wrong. Often am.

in reply to whitefishbay

You are correct, the difference is the Prednisone has to be processed through the liver before it turns into Prednisolone.
