Does Saw Palmetto help?

One of its listed benefits is reduction of inflammation. It also helps with blood sugar levels, supposedly. I’ve only ever heard of it as a prostate aid or for male sexual enhancement.

I wonder if it works for inflammation in PMR...

“Inflammation can happen all over the body—internally, externally—visible, or not. People may not realize that chronic inflammation is the culprit of their seemingly "random" aches, pains, and chronic fatigue. Today, more than ever, chronic inflammation plagues people of all ages and races—and saw palmetto can help to combat that. Saw palmetto contains powerful anti-inflammatory agents like healthy fatty acids and flavonoids which can reduce inflammation all over the body. Arthritis, Crohn's disease, fibromyalgia, and Parkinson's disease are just a few of the inflammatory diseases that saw palmetto supplementation can help improve.”

Where is the inflammation quote from? Not sure I would take it.....

"Saw palmetto is POSSIBLY SAFE when administered into the rectum appropriately for up to 30 days. It is not known if it is safe to use for longer periods of time"....from.

webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre...

Possible liver and kidney issues and seems like a prostate supplement as you say. Contraindicated - anti coagulants.

Here’s the link:

“Facty” sounds a little like “alternative facts”.

Will look for a more prestigious medical institution’s take on this.

Yes. It's hard sometimes. I get boggleyed by the end of the day on a smartphone. But if I wasn't looking for PMR stuff it would be something else.

I missed your reply cos it was a general thread rather than via my notifications. Glad I found it otherwise I might have looked rude 😂😂😂

I couldn’t find any indications for saw palmetto on the Mayo or WebMD sites except for prostrate issues.

Reason I brought it up is because a landscaper who was ready to retire due to pain and stiffness told me today he feels 10 years younger after taking saw palmetto for 6-8 weeks. He renewed his contract for another year, plus took on two more contracts!

Mmmmm. May be he has undx prostate issues??

He felt it was related to dehydration and the inability to absorb enough liquid no matter how much water he tried to drink.

But I was struck by how similar his aches and stiffness sounded to PMR.

Drinking without satisfaction was my diabetes state pre diagnosis. It's a thirst I can't explain. I could drink 2x2l bottles of water down in one within 30mins without it touching the thirst or the sides You pee a lot too. I would drink 10 2l bottles of water a day eventually. It built up gradually so I didn't even think it was strange. I also had pains in legs and torso as blood glucose got higher and higher.

Fibromyalgia and Parkinson’s are inflammatory diseases?

Apparently fibro is NOT inflammatory, which is why it's so hard to treat - the usual painkilling suspects don't work. Parkinsons on the other hand:

I was being sarcastic 🤭

Interesting work on PD and inflammation.......potential role of inflammation, may, suggestive, not conclusive (yet).

It may work for one and not others? We are all so different but I am willing to try...almost anything. One thing at a time though so I know what's working. Or it may just be another cause of relief?

Hey,

I'm not sure about any type of inflammation. What I do know, is that it is largely suggested for epididymitis ( i.e. inflammation on the male spermatic Cord) and it does help with it according to my experience.
