Bad day, turned worse!

Constance13 profile image

Update: I posted about a bad day about ten days ago. Within a few days I landed in hospital.

E-coli, kidney trouble, urinary tract inflammation, lots of inflammation in blood (CRP 90, ESR 36).

I'm out now, but far from well!😟

The joys of getting old!😏

Constance.

Better out than in.... Get well soon x

Oh Constance 🌷🌷🌷

Poor you, how awful for you!

Have they sorted your kidney issues out yet, did they increase your Pred at all? Presume you are being followed up?

Get Well Soon 🌷🌷🌷

Thank you!

I was on a three times during the day, three times in the night antibiotics drip. On other drips most of the day!!

I'm weak, but glad to be home.

I'll "get there", and the sun is shining. Could be worse!

Oh Constance. Really feel for you and send my best wishes that you feel much better soon. I noticed on your last post that you had doubled your pred and felt a bit better, though by time you went into hospital your bloods were high. Any longer term strategy in mind with dosage of pred?

I've not really thought much about pred, or even PMR so far, but I did up the pred from 4 to 7 this morning hoping it too will relieve the rest of the inflammation.

Yep! Question: does Pred help inflammation in the blood?

What do you mean? Did you have sepsis (sounds like it with all the i.v. antibiotics and what laypeople call "blood poisoning") and I doubt pred will help that. Or are you talking about the signs of inflammation in the blood?

If you had a UTI that could have been the cause of it all. Get the doc sooner next time!!!!!

It was the weekend so I thought "I'll be alright"! Of course it wasn't! Started non-stop shivering. Having had sepsis last year OH phoned for ambulance.

CRP was 20 when I left hospital so obviously inflammation still there.

What would you do at this stage?

Gosh , so sorry , you've been through the mill big time over the last few weeks.

Get plenty of rest and plenty of fluids , mineral water and green tea ( with flavours) with a little Manuka or local honey . Better than just water for those kidneys. They help flush out the system but don't remove the nutrients.

Taking more vitamins and minerals than the usual , from a supplement , mid food , can help your body reboot and regain some defences.

Little meals , and gluten , processed sugar free , lacto free diary plus with my persistent UTIs the hospital suggested no fungi foods , including oddly not just mushrooms , yeast or bread , but coffee , rice , dried beans and lentils and fresh peanuts , you could still eat probiotic live yoghurt to build up good bacteria in the gut though.

With the lower immunity not just from steroids but from the months of infection and antibiotics they wanted to try and prevent Candida / Thrush from fungal foods.

Nothing scratchy to eat as the infection and antibiotics can make your intestines feel more inflamed and sensitive too.

Have they put you on any cranberry extract tablets ?

often used , can't remember the name though , sorry , for people who have aggressive UTI / Kidney infections that cause added sepsis like problems.

Have the given you antibiotics or other medication to finally nail that blooming bug!?

I found taking my shower head down and circulating it close to the body with nicely warm water near my kidneys and lower abdomen helped ease the pain for me.

And , if you feel the increase in Pred will help to reduce the inflammation that the full body infection that you may be feeling , if you feel it's right for you , then have that increase while you recover.

Take care and let us know your progress , hugs , Bee x

Many thanks Bee!

Lots of info there, a lot that I didn't know.

I've upped my pred as CRP was still 20 and drink as much as I can (must get OH to get me some green tea - can't stand mineral water)!

I'm weak, so spend most of the day reading. I get up and hobble around for a few minutes every hour or so (don't want to be bed ridden).

I'll get there!

Kindest regards fr Constance.
