Sorry for the confusion. I need some kind of support for my back when I am doing chores around the house. Does anyone know of a good back belt, etc.

Thank you,

Seashells

Ah - that's what you meant. Can't help there but I can tell you that in the long term Pilates or good physiotherapy exercises (much the same in fact) will strengthen your back muscles. The trouble with using support belts is that the muscles become even weaker and the problem gets worse not better.

I agree, absolutely. I’ve lived with prolapsed discs for about 25 years. Chiropractic, a water bed, and strengthened abdo/core muscles are my key ingredients for maintenance. Household chores that cause problems (heavy vacuuming, sweeping, digging etc) get allocated!

And not to you I assume! That's why my house is a bit dusty - can't use a brush or a vacuum without problems. My orthopod in Germany, brilliant with backs, told me anyone with back problems should refuse to use either.

No! Not to me! Hubby ... and DiL-to-be absolutely LOVES cleaning bathrooms!!! (Nowt so queer as folk). I have a rechargeable lightweight hoover for quickies, doesn’t hold more than 15 minutes charge, so enforced non-hoovering 😁

I had a google search for you and found some research that concluded that these belts did not reduce pain doing ordinary domestic tasks, unlike a gym workout say.

You might be better off seeing a good physio, to learn about the best way to approach these tasks and exercises to increase your core strength. Have you had diagnostic tests for the back pain? My X Ray showed significant deterioration in my lower spine. I do Pilates with a Physiotherapist and I feel generally more flexible.

When my back twinges I get out my Velcro weight training belt (not that it's been used for purpose!) it helps my posture and keeps me from doing things the wrong way! Used pre PMR. (Got in john Lewis).

I started doing Pilates several years ago for my back problem. Living in deepest France at the time far from anywhete I bought the Pilates for back exercises on. Dvd from Amazon. There maybe more high tech ways of getting them now, bit the exercises were well explained an demonstrated. Highly recommend.

I had terrible back pain as soon as I started Pred. Enlightened consultant sent me on a free 6 week Pilates course at hospital. I found my own class afterwards an 2 years later I have lots of aches and pains in the morning but absolutely no back pain. I can vend and lift. My spine grew half an inch because i stretch properly, can't recommend enough. And I had never been to an exercise class in my life before. I have now started weights because I won't take alendronic acid.

I have a great back support which I got from Lidl but it might not suit everyone. All back problems are different!
