UTI & Preds..the saga continues!

Guess what? Four days after I stop taking antibiotics my UTI returns, this time heading 'up north' into my kidney. Such fun..not! Always happens at weekends so had to endure a pretty lousy Sunday. Got in to the GP first thing Monday (my surgery is first class) and back on antibiotics and today (after two further days of misery) I feel much better again. Saw my GP today and it was confirmed that my recent camera investigation shows nothing sinister going on but there must be nasty bugs which refuse to die and the Preds are making the job harder!

So I get a low dose two month supply of antibiotics to zap the blighters and I forge on in my attempt to reduces these pesky preds. Stable at 30mg, beginning my dead slow taper journey towards 20mg throughout March. A bit of progress!

This post has taken me time to type due to the cramp that has returned to my hands. It comes and goes and I have no idea what triggers it. Have tried drinking Indian Tonic Water and rubbing in Magnesium Oil with no improvement. Any other suggestions?

P.S. It's my birthday on Sunday (Sorry could not resist it after reading earlier posts and I do agree with the moderators reasons on this one)

Has your doctor checked your blood electrolyte levels recently? Magnesium is just one of the substances that can contribute to cramps - calcium is another and there are more. Personally I think tonic is best for gin and not for cramp - and maybe topical magnesium hasn't been enough, Maybe a longer course of low dose supplements??????

PS - I'll raise you a glass on Sunday, unless the G&T I currently have in my hand will do in advance ;)

I take calcium tablets daily but I will ask about further blood tests at my next visit. Carrying a tennis ball around with me at the moment to squeeze when my fingers start cramping, which helps!! Thanks for the advice and I will think of you as I have my rare treat of a glass of wine on Sunday.

Try this.................. old wives tale................level teaspoonful bicarb of soda, with a little water as possible. Repeat two hours later.

Anti-biotics, knock the good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria, it does not discriminate. A Consultant told me, after taking anti-biotics, take VSL#3, not available on NHS. 20 billion good guys. After a long struggle (op - gall bladder - did not as planned) I took these. I know keep them in the fridge, ready to go after any anti-biotic. Also Yoghurt, every day. Not fancy, if possible make your own.

You could also ask to see a Urologist...............

I won't be drinking a G&T, I will be drinking Orange Licquer Brandy.

Thanks, I had forgotten that the good bacteria gets zapped. As my stomach seems to be one of the few parts of me that functions properly I will invest in VSL.

Enjoy your weekend tipple!
