THE RESULTS ARE IN.

OK. hooray. last year the day I started the dreaded bone eating prednisone I also started your recommendations for Calcium D and Vit K27 and weight vest and tap dancing and weight bearing exercise. I started Dexa scan at -2.7 and today got the results a year and 1/2 later and I am STILL -2.7 (in fact the hip and the neck are UP .001 ) NO BONE MEDICINE!!!! (the one odd thing was they did a forearm scan for the first time and it was -3.4 which is not good.. but I did not do any forearm exercises!!!!..and who knows what it was before. ) I am coming away from this report more convinced than ever that you can save your BONES with exercise and calcium and K and D. !!!! Thank you all for all the tips. Again the doc recommended AA but of course added, I know you won't take it! haha. YEA!!!!!!!!!!! I think this is triumphant! Deserving of a hallelujah choir!

Next time. a year from now I will be EVEN closer to only osteopenia and the photo will be MY forearms in a year.

Well done! I've just had my results and they're not good so it's good to read this.

Sheffieldjane is not alone in this achievement - others have done it. :) I went from -2 to -1.6 in one year while on pred above 5 mg. So take heart. I will not recommend what you should do, but at least now you know there may be an alternative. The key thing your doctor seems to be doing is ruling out other causes which is a good thing.

I've refused the bisphosphonates too. I'm taking my supplements and doing weight bearing exercise, plus exercises to improve my balance. I walk regularly and I've ordered a weighted vest to wear when walking. So, your story is very encouraging. Thank you for letting us know.

in reply to Marijo1951

Where did you get your weighted vest from please?

I ordered it from Aldi as mentioned on a recent post on this forum. See:

aldi.co.uk/search?text=weig...

I'd love an expensive one but funds don't allow it at the moment and there's always the risk that it won't be my cup of tea and will be wasted. So I'm starting out with a more modest one.

I saw them in Aldi yesterday alone with lots of exercise equipment, hand weight etc

omg. GET the ALDI one. I paid a Fortune. I love mine but seriously I am sure this would do the trick and is 17 £ instead of 100 or whatever it was!!!!

Only if it is comfortable to wear - if it isn't it will be like the £2 shoes that kill you feet: not a bargain after all!! One commentator on the website said it was very small and she couldn't get it on!

That made me feel better for having spent the $ because it is really comfortable and I have lighter weights in mine..adjustable. You are the best PMRpro!

Not everyone should be “put off” taking meds, whichever one!

You results are good but +01 is still an increase and -3.4 is certainly not good.

My dexa-scan showed -3.4 one year and the next year -2.3. That was enough for me to be convinced medicine ‘works’. Rheumy said I should be off the med within a year.

yogabonnie in reply to Constance13

I am glad that worked for you! great results! You are right. not everyone should be afraid of the meds. I am just more afraid of it because of family history of esophageal trouble and because my dentist told me not to take fosomax.

I also have oesophageal trouble but, luckily, the Ibondrat med doesn’t seem to affect me. I have an injection every 3 months - no problems so far (touch wood).

That is the point of the injections - that avoids the gullet problems altogether.

Without meaning to be rude are any of you over 65. Cos i believe that the age they start restricting the dexa scan for some reason. Discrimination I call it. I am asking for the scan next doc visit. I have taken AA but have now stopped

I will be 72 in a few days time. Had last DEXA 3 years ago. Never heard there was an age limit.
