Interesting article about Vitamin K2

We've had some discussion recently about the importance of taking Vitamin K2 alongside calcium and Vitamin D. I found this article on Nutrition Advance very interesting. Evidently K2 has other health benefits too:

Very interesting. Did you read the link to an article on foods which contain the most K2? Useful especially as it says this is more easily absorbed than the synthetic form. I'm disappointed kefir isn't mentioned as I thought that was how I was getting it!

There are several dairy foods on the list, but they're all full fat dairy, which might be significant. I'm not sure if kefir is made from full cream milk or skimmed

I make my own from full cream. The list does mention fermented foods and it qualifies there.

Great article! Thanks for sharing. I'll be certain to keep it in my diet in natural forms and supplements.

Kefir may not be made from milk at all, or made from coconut milk or water. I know it is a good food for its bacteria, which are probably involved in our own body being able to make a small amount of Vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 supplements are made from natto, which is fermented soy. If you can get, and stomach, natto it's the best source. Many if not most of us can't get enough for therapeutic benefit from our food as much of our food is now deficient in this vitamin.

Calcium is definitely best obtained from food, and Vitamin D from the sun, at certain times of year, and if our body is efficient enough at metabolising and activating it. Apparently we become less able to activate Vitamin D as we age.

Haven't read these articles yet, but Rheume-Bleue is the author of excellent book on Vitamin K2:

I have problems with soya products and find myself retching at the thought of eating natto, though I'm okay taking the supplements that are made from it.

I've never even seen natto but I hear it is definitely an acquired taste!

Neither have I, but I feel queasy around tofu, so feel sure I'd hate natto.

Hi

Yes, a very interesting article, i probably missed it but i couldn't find anywhere where the amount we need to take to come somewhere near these results.

The only "official" recommendation I've seen is from Australia and I'm no longer sure but I think it was 180 mcg per day. My capsules are 100 mcg each so I take 2, at separate times of day.

No, it doesn't recommend an actual daily amount. Currently I'm taking 2 Nature's Best capsules per day (90 micrograms per capsule).
