Rapid reduction!

I had been taking Lefluminide for 10 weeks, but had to stop after blood test showed increase in liver toxicity . Saw a new young Rhuemy on Friday, she asked how long I had had PMR , when I told her three years, her response was " we must get you off steroids as soon as possible" this is the reduction plan she gave me:

7.5 for 1 month

5 for 1 month

4 for 1 month

3 for 1 month

Easy isn't it!

Tsk, tsk, tsk. Yet another young Rheumy doing her “duty” suggesting a simplistic “textbook taper”.

This is such a common experience for PMR/GCA patients. Have to say my biggest frustration is the training and education these Rheumatologists receive about tapering, who then pass it along to their patients. Education that does not truly address the complexity and sensitivity needed to see each patient as a separate, unique individual/case. One size does not fit all.

Taper at your own pace as you see fit. Do not feel pressured to follow something that will result in a flare.

Oh dear, I was told that about a year ago from a rheumie...it left me in considerable pain...it was way too fast......it's about you, not her. In the end he had to let me do it my way....very slowly.....now it's manageable.
