Hello! I think I maybe having a ‘flare’ in that I was on 4 msg and went down to 31/2 and I started getting horrible pains down my arms and shoulder blades but also in my heart- I say heart not chest as it was all on the left hand side . I’m now on 4 again and it has improved but still getting the same pains, left arm feels abit numb. Am I worrying needlessly? And is going back to 4mgs of prednisone enough. HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL AND A BETTER 20019 xx

I’ve had costochondritis which is inflammation in the rib cartilage and feels tight and painful in the chest, but any time you have pain that is unusual in the heart area you should go straight to the hospital. It sounds worrisome. If it turns out to be nothing, then that’s great, but you shouldn’t take the chance. I would go immediately to get it checked. Good luck!

I think you need checking also. Just in case, then you will know. We folks need lots of medical help I find. Do what you can to take care of yourself.

hallo Isabella, in Holland you have general practitioners centers open in the weekend, if that exist also where you live simply ask for advice on the phone now.

A couple of times I've had really helpful advice from the NHS line 111. The advisers are much better now than when it was first set up, and often a doctor will call you back to discuss your problems in depth.

Please please get it checked out. Call 999 (if you are in the UK) and tell them it is chest pain - they will arrive with an ECG machine pronto. I have atrial fibrillation that is associated with the PMR autoimmune part. It gets worse as I reduce the pred or if I have a flare. It is better to be seen once too often rather than once too few.

THankyou so much PMpro how scarey it would be without this community. I also have AF and a bigger heart than normal plus high blood pressure. Today no pain and tomorrow I will hopefully be talking to the cardiology appointments and will explain and hope they will give me an appointment pronto. I was hopeing to go to Spain on Friday ( where I have a private insurance) what do you think?

I also have A/F and I’m with PMRPro on this. I’d call the paramedics who would rather come out for a false alarm than risk missing something important. Good luck!

I don't stay at home just because of a/f - I'm in Malta at present.

PMRpro THankyou again, no I’ve never not gone away cos AF my query was because of the pain in heart not knowing if it could be serious. It’s been far less and now have an appointment with cardiology tomorrow, THankyou everyone .

I have always assumed chest pain is the a/f - the signs and the pattern are quite clear when it's decided to play up. But if we wait "just in case" we'd go nowhere would we? And I can be fine for weeks, months even, and then suddenly there it is again without any warning. It really is a difficult question to answer...

Oh!!! It never occurred to me it could be connected to AF!! No doc even mentions it except when it shows up in an ecg or somewhere. That’s a great relief. I was ythinkinh it could be furry arteries or something . Thanku again and again!

It could, or be a bit of both - at some point it does need to be checked. It's like PMR - can always blame it!!!!

Yes IsabellaPMR pro is right, you need to get this checked out, lowering the dose can cause inflammation to flare up again, hopefully it will not be too much to worry about, but it is best to make sure as soon as possible. All the best, please let us know how you get on.
