hallo animalactivist, you are in in difficult position and I understand how hard it is to make a good choice. I am concerned for everyone stopping cortison or similar. Please keep in mind that inflammation alone can cause fatique and other inconveniences, so don't blame the pred alone. And uncontrolled inflammation inflammation can go on travelling through your body. I am sorry, working in a health food store never expected to need pred. so wish you all the wisdom in the world en that you feel a bit better soon.

If have read your post correctly, you have stopped both Pred and Metho.

If you have just stopped metho ignore the rest of this post.

You should never stop pred abruptly, whilst on pred your adrenal glands shut down after two weeks. You are now running the risk of an adrenal crisis.

You need to see your GP right now and tell him exactly what you have done.

Always remember that in some people, stopping pred without tapering when diagnosed with PMR can, in some people, lead to GCA and you do not want to go down that road.

Sorry if this sounds harsh...................

Pleased to hear that you are feeling better. I hope that they are keeping a careful watch on you at the hospital.

How did your scans go?

I simply refused to take methotrexate. Nothing would induce me to take Celecoxib either.

Hi PMRpro, I am intrigued by the Celcoxib comment, what are the downsides in your opinion/experience (vs. the myriad listed on the drug leaflet and on the www). Thx

It is an NSAID - which rarely work for PMR although celcoxib does work in RA and various other inflammatory arthritides. It is a Cox-2 inhibitor and there have been concerns about their adverse effects. Iti s also contraindicated in patients with ischaemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral artery disease, mild to severe heart failure, active gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding or inflammatory bowel disease. One of the instructions is not to lie down for a time after taking it - so combining it with steroids seems a bit questionable.

Do you have PMR? I assume that the Celecoxib is for something else as NSAIDs really do not help PMR.

What ever works for you.....take control but do your homework..and nsaids do help with PMR in the lesser stages, I’ve read it in various med articles after being told they’re useless...for sure not the first line of defense and should be used with care but they help me at times along with the pred..careful though, the combo can be tough on the gut!

Wow, radical decision... I understand, but I am as concerned as the others here at the abrupt "stop." Is your GP/Rheumy aware and/or in agreement?

Darling I back you and I understand. But my rheumatologist told me that stopping pred abroad a woman put into intensive care. Our bodies cannot pick up quickly enough to provide the vital hormones we need to sustain life xxx
