A couple of weeks ago I asked questions about gel capsules for my steroids to try and help with my gut problems. Thanks for all the replies to those questions, really helpful. Well yeaterday I had an endoscopy and it turns out I have a hiatus hernia that is causing me grief. A previous endoscopy in 2014 showed ulcers at both ends of my stomach due to AA and Pred. So now I’m waiting to see a gastro surgeon to see what the next steps are.I would dread having surgery but I’m not happy to stay on large doses of Esomeprazole forever, I’ve been on it five years now and it’s usually only prescribed for short periods I gather . I’m getting so fed up of everything , over five years on this devil drug and PMR and GCA and new ills every year or so, Atrial Fibrillation, partial Deafness, kidney tumour, skin cancers , plantar fasciitis, sciatica and now Hernia. Nobody said passing 60 would be this bad! So now I’m off to buy more gut friendly foods and apparently chocolate is a strict no no, life can be hard at times. But I guess I need to pull on my Big Girl Pants and get on with stuff I’ve just read a post from Anita’s daughter about her mum passing and I feel ashamed that I’m moaning.

There is absolutely no need to apologise for the moan, that’s along list of health problems. I too have discovered that getting old is not for the weak or faint hearted. So Big Girl Pants it is, all very good wishes and a virtual hug to maybe help a little. 🌸

At least you know now!! And it isn't the Big C - thank goodness for small mercies.

I think I know how you feel to some extent though my only add-ons are myofascial pain syndrome and atrial fibrillation - both due to the PMR and they give me more grief than the PMR itself when I have a flare! The a/f really makes me feel quite mouldy when it starts up - OH has permanent a/f and doesn't notice, I have paroxysmal and it switching on or off is quite unnerving! And I am sitting against a hot water bottle for my low back. Bah!!!

You are allowed a moan - living with chronic problems is wearing. Have they ever considered methyl pred intramuscular depot injections for your PMR? I'm sure that might help the gastric stuff too.

Hi Dovelady

It’s not fair is it? It’s actually good to write it all down because it validates it. Awful News about Anita, so very sad.

Take Care 🌺

Please let us know what they propose. Prilosec for many many years now for hiatal hernia. Honestly, I think it is harder to taper off Prilosec than Pred. Was just about to give it another go when PMR came along.
