Finally diagnosed

Today was my appointment with the rheumatoid doctor. I was diagnosed with PMR. Starting at 25mg of prednisone and also taking methotrexate because of the diabetes. She is hoping that will allow of lower dose of steroids and tapering faster. If 25 mg doesn’t work then up to 30 for a month. Wish me luck.

I am a year in to PMR. Also have Type1 diabetes and under active thyroid. I have to say Its not easy juggling all the meds. The pain level dropped pretty quick with 30ml of steroids but they played absolute havoc with my blood sugars, during the day I was on almost double insulin and then have bad hypo’s at night, like bed and me just wet through and changing everything at 3am. No one told me that the steroids would make me immune to insulin, definitely get help with it, sooner rather than later. It all settled down once my pump was programmed an I got used to. I am now on 7mg the only thing that hurts now is my hands and wrists, they have been very painful and debilitating. In the mornings I take Lansoprosol, after 30 mins I take my prednisilone. Have breakfast then take my supplements. I take my thyroxine at night before bed. That seems to all work for me. Have carried on pretty normal for months now with the odd painful day if I over did things a bit. I read on this foram and it explained a lot that if your pain is at bay it means the steroids are doing there job, the PMR is still there so if you over do thing it will make you suffer the next day. So sorry to hear you have been diagnosed with pmr. I hope your dr. put you on folic acid for the side effects of the methotrexate. It helps a lot with the mouth sores. If you are taking the pills and get sick, try the injections. They work really nice and you don't get the stomach upset. They teach you how to take them at home.
