Travel and PMR

Have had PMR for 18mths have tapered down to 6.5mg from 15mg cant seem to get lower at present. Was anxious about a 5 wk holiday planned to Western Canada and Alaska, could I manage my prednisolone regime with time differences and crossing date lines etc not to mention the increased exercise and early starts and the prolonged sitting on flights to and from Australia.

Well I have to tell you I had the most fabulous time, no flares, no increased doses needed, hated the early starts was a bit stiff until I got going was tired at night but really the PMR did not impact on my time away. I know all our journeys are different but if your situation is stable dont put travel off we deserve fun and goodtimes and great memories.

Just for the record I did consult with my Rheumatologist and he was very supportive.

I guess now I have to recommence my taper to 6mg, oh well!

Back to the dead slow method which works for me.

Look after yourselves.

How long do they intend keeping you in?

Hi,

Don’t know yet - paperwork quotes 3 days after surgery - that’s Thursday provided they’re all happy!

Surgical team happy with wound, so up to physio and low BP improving I guess- mobility seems good

It's not unusual it seems, I always have low BP after surgery - once it was only a day stay and they kept plying me with tea and sandwiches (which I didn't want) to bring it up, eventually got there after the ward had closed and kept the nurses late!

Hope your BP doesn't keep you in longer than necessary - you seem to be doing as well as can be expected otherwise, good job done by the sounds of it, hope your recovery goes as smoothly.

Good thanks. Just need to get accustomed to crutches! Then home tomorrow.

I was hopeless with crutches. The physios told me to use them a particular way which just did not work for me. I wanted to swing along like those teenagers do when they need crutches, mind you that did not work for me either!

PMR has never stopped me - with or without pred. Though it is definitely easier with pred!!! And airport assistance...

What a GREAT experience for you!!!!! WOOO HOO! A success story! So happy for you... I have had some good experiences and some not good experiences... we are al different and I guess there are a LOT of variable.

Well Done! We cannot let PMR steal everything from us. I did a 5 week trip to Singapore, Australia & New Zealand but 4 Weeks were on a Cruise, so that is easier on the body, unpack once & l did take it relatively easy, that was during my first year of PMR.

So glad you enjoyed it & none the worse for it!

Well done! My holiday after a slightly rocky start was similarly great, lots of walking although no hiking, so now we know it can be done. :)

Heron NS I think knowing that it can be done and that we dont have to totally take travel out of our lives because of the unpredictability of our disease has been an important lesson for me and given me the confidence to plan for another trip but maybe a shorter one this time.

I always pack well in advance, as you don’t know when your going to feel unwell or hit a bad patch, then at least your organised.

I bag all my dresses in polythene on ‘grip to me’ hangers & then they are good to go after unpacking.......

The polythene stops them creasing too!
