Well on a lighter note, I survived the Rolling Stones concert in Southampton last night. Well what a night, they have so much energy that it took me back to when I first saw them in the sixties. Apart from looking older every thing else about them was the same. They were brilliant

I wish we could bottle what they are on it would save the NHS a fortune.

Wonder if Mick takes his meds like we do . Ha ha

18 months ago I would of struggled with this. So there is hope for us all xx

"I wish we could bottle what they are on it would save the NHS a fortune"

Not sure I want to think about it too closely. But their daily exercise routine would probably finish us off...

You can buy plenty of it in Amsterdam, you could even buy ice cream with some dodgy ingredients :-)

Actually, they probably took a lot more drugs than we did in their early years! Perhaps that’s the answer!

Plus of course, with their squillions they don’t have to rely on the NHS!

Glad you enjoyed it, but they never “did it” for me!

I must have been too young for Elvis and missed the Stones. Can't think of anyone who really "did" it for me.

Well you know for me it’s Elvis...all the way!

But I’m not that much older than you...perhaps more of a misspent youth, listening to Radio Luxembourg under the bed covers!

Ahh, those were the days.

How about the 'Kinks' were they on your radar? Or even Rod Stewart?

9lives profile image
9lives in reply to

Yes definitely, loved the kinks . I’m more into Rod these days.

He wasn’t my thing then.

Wonder where all these groups are now?

Such fond memories

Yes, I knew them well where we all went to school in Muswell Hill, London. Rod was in a class a year younger and I remember my farther saying don't mix with the likes of RS he will never get anywhere.

Yes such fond memories, Pete Quaife of the Kinks was my best pal at school, we use to go to his house after school and play about with guitars and in those days tape recorders. He was also a fantastic cartoonist and later in life when he left the Kinks, earned his living as a commercial artist.

Unfortunately Pete passed away with kidney failure some years ago. Ray was my 'sparing partner' and together with Pete we studied engineering in the same class. Rod was in a year younger, but also in the same school. I am still in touch with Ray.

That’s such a great story, what wonderful memories you have x

Great songwriter Ray. What a dynamic sound they were with "You Really Got Me". That's my 1st memory of them. Rod & Maggie May. Well there you go! Brilliant.

Thanks for that Pastit.

Wow, I never had a close relationship with any of them but saw loads of the bands in the 60's they were just starting out and used to come to the local swimming baths on a Saturday night, only band didn't see was the Beatles as we wouldn't travel to Manchester some 30 miles away plus we didn't know who they were! We didn't know how famous any of them were going to be back then - my son didn't believe me.. I loved the sixties nothing beats it, the bands the fashion everything...

in reply to Telian

Such memories, those time lines live with us forever. In fact we didn't have all the troubles that are going on now. Or were we too young to know. No mobile phones etc.

Telian in reply to

Absolutely right, afraid I don't understand some of the current music! There must have been troubles but we never saw them - we used to walk home from Rawmarsh Baths and so did everyone else, felt safe and everyone chatted, can see it now...the fact that we'd seen the likes of the Kinks, Tom Jones, Lulu or whoever they were just another band, I recall seeing Lulu three times and just used to say, you know we saw her the other week - great memories.

in reply to Telian

Yes, it actually doesn't seem that long ago until I see that old man Iooking back at me in the mirror 😉

I saw Rod Stewart playing in our local pub when I was 17. Nobody had heard of him then. Loved it!

Great, ha, when I was 17 he was unknown 🤗 I could tell you a story or two about him, but then that was a long time ago 😉

Great stuff Carol. Saw them a couple of weeks ago starting their tour in Dublin. I had exactly the same thoughts. I could do with some of what they’re on.

Hadn’t seen them live since the early 80s. Still blown away...amazing gig.
