It is very very unlikely you have the illness we discuss on this forum - it is generally found in over 50s so your mum or gran might have it, but unlikely you do.

But if you have a high ESR, which that is at your age, it is a sign you have something inflammatory going on somewhere in your body. If you have joint pain that is worsening then your doctor needs to think about referring you to a rheumatologist for investigation for some form of inflammatory arthritis. It might not be - but they have to start somewhere. The ESR might be raised because of all sorts of things - it is the joint pain that is of interest.

Good luck.

Request a referral to a specialist if your GP doesn’t know what it is.

Hi Saher, I am sorry that you are suffering in this way. There are a number of things that your symptoms could point to. You need a whole series of tests to get to the bottom of this. A Rheumatologist referral is a matter of priority for you. You may well have an autoimmune disease but not this one. PMR tends to strike people after 50 years of age. I can see how you landed here though. Good luck. I hope you have something that can be remedied quickly. If you are getting no where with your GP, see another one.

Sound likes an inflammatory condition to me as you are quite young for PMR according to all the data I have read. Are you at college full time? The symptoms are similar to Mono in my opinion. Glandular Fever I think is the medical term. That affects young people in that kind of environment.

See if your GP will test for that it will rule it out for you if it’s not. Normally for a fit young person it should be easy to diagnose and manage? Make sure you tell the Doctor your worried. Be persistent. Best of luck.

Saher so sorry about the high ESR. Inflammation is the culprit. Who ordered the ESR? He/she should recommend a battery of lab tests but also refer you to another specialist, perhaps a rheumatologist. Don’t worry. Ask lots of questions to get to the bottom of this.
