Currently trying 300 mg of gabapentin at bedtime.. too soon to tell
Hello,
Are you on Pred too? My thought is that if you have pain then the inflammation is not under control. If that is the case, you may be risking other complications of that, so just trying to kill the pain is only half the issue.
They do not work for PMR pain - they are used for "nerve" pain and in fibromyalgia sometimes. If what you have is PMR then enough pred will deal with the pain. If a dose of up to about 25mg/day did not make a significant dent in the pain - the chances are it isn't PMR. If you have pain after relief at a higher dose you have reduced the dose too far. You need enough to manage the daily batch of new inflammation caused by the on-going underlying autoimmune disorder - if you don't take enough, the inflammation will mount up again and you will be in pain again.
I just spent 3 weeks getting off of gabapentin. It was prescribed for something else and didn't help my pmr. What it does do is causes terrific fatigue. Not anything we need. I wish I would have realized the side effects 2 years ago.
