Think I've taken a double dose of pred

Thank I've taken double dose of pred this morning. Am under a lot of stress as my daughter is suffering from severe burns caused by her slipping while carrying bowl of near boiling water. Her boiler broke down and is not yet fixed. She's staying with friends as she can't drive or do anything much and has to go to Chelsea burns unit three times a week; her arms are severely burnt and she can't work and may not be able to for a while as she teaches piano. Worst of all, lack of trains during the past week has meant I haven't yet been able to get to see her; I don't drive. I'm trying to get a boiler fix arranged at long distance but she has the keys and I'm not there. I'm sure we will work something out but I don't want her to worry too much as she's in as lot of pain but all this is buzzing around my mind day and night. So I was in a fuddled state when doing my week's tablet allocation this morning and I think I took one day's dose instead of putting it into my tablet container as I now think I had already taken my 10mg dose. This could mean I've taken 20 instead. Can I expect ill effects?

I think you have enough concerns and stress at the moment without worrying about a double dose of Pred. I am no expert but as others are often told to double a dose at certain times I would say it's OK but the experts will along shortly with their advice. Sorry you are having so many upsets and I hope your daughter will be much better soon and that the boiler is sorted quickly. I heard on the radio recently that if your boiler breaks down (and there are many it seems due to this particularly cold weather) it could be simply that the condensing pipe may be iced up and some warm water could fix it. I hope this is your case. Good luck. Dorothy

Thanks Dot. No, I'm afraid the boiler is a complete write off so I'm financing a new one (gulp!) It's just the logistics of getting to her house and getting her to the hospital without car as she obviously cannot drive. Her friends are helping a lot but most of them have children who need ferrying back and forth. All this organising makes it difficult for her to relax.

Can she use public transport? I'd have thought not - so she may qualify for patient transport which would help a bit.

Doubt it Maria ,just a fairly quick taper back to your normal dose but a little more slowly towards the end of the reduction back, as you do not wish to bring about a Flare because of shock and do at times ,just quietly, take some deep breaths and relax. Not easy in the circumstances. She is in good hands with the Burns unit and if I may wish a her peace in pain and mind. and not to forget she has friends around her and there is nothing like them in the World. Take care , John

Hi maria40,

You probably find you've much more energy than usual ...and it sounds as if you need it!

Don't worry, just don't do it too often!

Thanks Dorset Lady. No I hope I won't do it again. Not like me usually. My daughter said when I told her 'But Mum, you're always so organised'. Not at the moment I'm not.

I have done this in the past and I just ended up having a good day with lots of fake energy, which it sounds like you need. Just go back to normal tomorrow. You must be agonised with frustration and worry. You would possibly have needed a bit more for the shock. It didn’t interfere with my taper because it was a one off and it isn’t an overdose as such ( look at GCA doses). Try not to catastrophise the impact of your daughter’s injuries and live more minute by minute right now.

This is the second bad scald news this morning, Did you see scubadiver’s post?

Good advice,SJ but difficult to take but I will try. I did see scubadiver's post which was encouraging in that he's recovered relatively quickly.

Not really - probably a really good day and perhaps a bit less sleep tonight. Everyone has done it as some point.

In fact - as Dot says, it will probably help a bit with the stress.

And just go back to the normal dose tomorrow.

Thanks PMRpro . I thought that would be the answer but really wanted confirmation. Am feeling better and brighter now and must try not to worry.

Have just read your post and understand how frustrating it must be not to be able to reach your daughter. Hope the extra dose helped you.

It seems a lot of people have had boiler problems but most because of the condensate pipe freezing (Combi boilers).

We have been lucky here on the South Coast and have had very little snow, even most of the schools remained open and the supermarkets have been well stocked. It rained quite hard yesterday and the temperature has risen considerably.

Hope you get to your daughter`s soon. Look after yourself.

Hi Maria

like others I accidentally took two 13mg doses once. Felt great through day but had a buzzy night. No other effects at all.

Best wishes to your daughter. 🌻
