Anyone know something about blood CPK? My bloods CPK came up low # of 36. CRP and Sed rates all normal. Thanks PMRJ

It is an enzyme, creatine phosphokinase. The level in blood rises when muscles are damaged - such as in a heart attack but also if you have a myositis. The test should always be done for patients with symptoms of PMR and the symptoms of myositis are similar. CPK rises in myositis because muscles are actually damaged and break down but not in PMR. If you had myositis the ESR and CRP would usually be normal, the CPK high. In PMR the ESR and CRP may be raised or normal - but the CPK would never be raised.
