Does anyone else have a dry scalp and how do you treat it. On 8 mg of prednisolone and been on predict since March this year. I also have some dry skin on my face.

Any advice would be very welcome

I am also finding a general dryness, hands, feet, face, hair. I just use creams and lotions bought over the counter. I would look out for shampoos for dry scalp and the various treatments. I don't wash my fragile hair every day anymore. You could try massaging your head with oil. I brought some fragrance free Argon oil back from Morocco which was soo cheap. It seems good. When you look at what they charge for it here. Even baby oil, the massaging and leaving in for a while is key. I use all over body lotions too, they are much of a muchness. If I am very good my other half gets me Jo Malone which smells exquisite.

If you think it's ezcema ( sp) the doctor could prescribe something.

Not familiar with predict, possibly should be.

Thanks Jane. Hairdresser yesterday said your scalp is quite dry. She suggested shampooing it twice. Only struck me this morning that my skin is dry elsewhere and that it started after using prednisolone. Will have a look at the shampoos available.

Is your scalp or skin itchy? If so fragrance and colour free products eg ‘Simple’ are likely to help, and the proprietary treatments for dandruff and sensitive scalp like Head and Shoulders may well aggravate the condition. ( They are nearly always coloured and fragranced.)

I know this because I am a specialist nurse in food intolerance and test many products on people with scalp and skin conditions, negating the need for steroid creams etc.

In the UK you can get Diprobase or Double base products for skin in prescription - although they aren't horrendously expensive to buy OTC. They are used in eczema.

I believe that cutting all soap products helps immensely - that means anything that foams. All it does is strip the natural oils from the skin - which you then spend a small fortune on replacing with moisturisers! And I only wash my hair every 2 weeks - on a good month, after 3 weeks. It takes a bit of time to get there but daily hairwashing with soap products whatever their label is VERY bad for your hair.

Olive oil is good for scalp dryness or coconut oil. Also good as a body moisturiser. Any body lotion with such oils are good.

Yes I now only wash my hair every 2 weeks and it seems in better condition for this. Would also agree with cutting out all soap products for showering and using double base cream, which you can get on prescription. It certainly has stopped my skin all over, feeling dry. I must admit I do though use a good moisturiser for my face.

I am repeatedly asked what facial moisturiser I use, especially when they find out how old I am. Nothing - just water and a good diet with plenty of fats in it!!! I'd rather spend the money on good food :-)

Brilliant! I don't buy expensive moisturiser- just one that works for me. I agree that good diet and I think increasing my water consumption has done wonders for my skin.

I just hate the feeling on my skin - can't abide even sun cream. Years ago I found an aqueous based one - thought I'd died and gone to heaven! And of course - it disappeared off the market!
