Hello, I think you'll get more information from a site that deals with benign prostate issues. This one is for Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Giant Cell Arteritis, neither of which deal with prostate conditions. Good luck.

Hi Musicman

I really think you ought to be seeing your GP, even maybe a Urologist.

I have prostate cancer as well as PMR. Not a lot of fun, as I am on hormone therapy for three years, and that gives the same side effect ( fatigue and hot sweats) as pred.

Before the cancer was diagnosed, saw palmetto did nothing for me. Have you had your PSA checked?

Good luck

Paddy

I agree with everything you have said, I had the same prostate problem and home remedies did not work. Went to local health centre and the did PSA check and it read 26.7. Was sent to hospital for further examination and scans and gave me the bad news, I have aggressive prostate cancer and I have had my chemo fro April 2017 till three weeks ago plus hormone injections.

My advice, seek professional help.

Warmest Regards

Not only is this a PMR/GCA forum - the vast majority of its members are female so have no experience of this problem!

I'm assuming you have seen a doctor as you say it is benign prostatitis rather than benign prostatic hyperplasia or prostate cancer - so I think they are the best person to ask about management. If you haven't seen a urologist you cannot be sure of the diagnosis and so you SHOULD ask for referral to a urologist.

This may help:

Your GP should be discussing investigation/treatment options with you.

Well, some of us do - by association🤔 My husband was a great one for sharing too much information...... still better that than keeping it to himself I guess.

Your bladder pain could be due to prostatitis which would need an antibiotic if you do indeed have prostatitis.... if you are an avid user of the internet you will find out that saw palmetto has Highly Questionable efficacy if any.... bottom line... visit your doctor or urologist to get a diagnosis so that you can be treated appropriately..... if you have a simmering prostatitis the sooner you get on an antibiotic the better.

Hi,I had much pain in testicles and close area and diff.in urinating etc etc .Had course a/biotics from urologist after prostate exam and psa test etc. Then mri scan on pubic area..all clear. Not a lot happened ;was told it would burn itself out over period of months or years!?Got worse ..saw another urologist ,had kidney test ..o.k. then checked bladder via usual route with camera tube!Bloody painful as d/w under local anaesthetic!!(never again)..Upshot was that lining of bladder eaten away and red raw like tomato with ulceration throughout..(he hinted that heavy earlier course of a particular a/biotic had caused it probably? Then began start of ulcers being cauterised regularly under general anaesthetic!..this went on from 2007 to 2015 annually..gradually getting better each time and avoiding caffine, fizzy drinks, curries, and alchohol generally as to avoid irritating bladder etc..Upshot is not had an op. since 2015 as bladder nearly recovered and symptoms and pain have diminished mostly and my life more or less normal!Glad I met the second urologist!...This may help some folk or not but it's my story and others have had similar I believe?
