What is the itch.

Although I have brown hair and green eyes, I can definitely claim to be bossy although I describe it as always being right!!. I was born on a Friday and hate being stuck indoors. Anyhow I love all the comments on the Vikings even if I can't claim to be one.

My question regards itching. As soon as I lay my head on the pillow the insides of my ears and scalp start to itch. I have washed the pillows etc and although I try not to think about all the little beings that live in our beds and bodies, I wonder if it is related to medication and not them. Does anyone else have this problem. It could be the warm summer and being inclined to hot flushes again due to steroid reduction but it is definitely not nits.

By the way my hair is now white and I am down to 7mg Prednisolone - hurray.

Could it be your shampoo?

Is there anything to see on your scalp or in your ears?

You might want to try an anti fungal shampoo.

I bet this will pass like all the other weird symptoms we get.

Itching is a very contagious concept. I am scratching my head as we speak. Perhaps you expect to itch therefore you do.

Do you take any night medication - could be that. I've just learned that my dry mouth at night is probably the Amitriptylin I take to help me sleep.

I too started scratching my head as soon as I read it. But agree anti fungal or medicated shampoo might help xx

No shampoo would be better....or if you must use on Johnson's baby shampoo and no soap buy some Double Base Gel (or you might be able to get your GP to prescribe it) and follow the instructions.

Hi Cobnut,

Can't help with the itch sorry, but as one of the leading goddesses, and bearing in mind you do have certain pertinent tendencies, I could grant you honorary Viking status!

Hello Dorset Lady. Thanks for granting me honorary Viking status. My slave who lives in had blond hair and blue eyes and a strong Viking look about him. As he is bossy too, we have stand offs but I usually win. As he is good at housework I keep him on. However he is no good at itches either so I have read all my replies and will give some a go. So thank you everyone and here is to an itch free night.

Add a couple of drops of rosemary essential oil to shampoo/conditioner. Or try tea tree oil.

I have an itchy arm with horrible spots that I now call steroid zits. They start as a white blister not painful just itchy. If I scratch they go red if I don't they go red. It's only on my left shoulder and looks horrid. They then have a scab on them I use Cetraben on my skin to smooth it but doesn't hide it or really stop it? Topic for next week with the Doctor.

Don't you get an itchy scalp with GCA thought I read that in here??

Hi,

No you don't get an itchy scalp with GCA. What you get is a extremely tender scalp where you can't brush, comb or even bear to wash your hair - totally different!

Good to know I only read half what I should before repeating it. Does Parkers head in. He says he only corrects me in case I say things to people that might think I am a bit thick.

Husbands - Don't you just luv 'em! Not quite sure they manage to turn an insult into something that's doing you a favour! Mind you, tact is never very high up in the male psyche!

You are so right and its even worse when they start to go deaf and don't always hear properly. Today at Sainsburys as usual my soft fruit was put at the bottom of the bag containing vegetables with the result that I had potato squashed raspberries despite me giving packing lessons on many occasions. But we mustn't complain as they have a lot to put up with looking after steroid moody wives and do a good job all round. Regarding the itch, I think as mentioned by people it may be a change in washing liquid or fabric conditioner. When you swallow as many pills as we do, you tend to blame everything on one of them. By the way, the husband said raspberries get chewed up anyhow!

Hi again,

Yep, they always have a slick answer don't they - at least mine did! That's what I miss about him! And he had '"selective" deafness!

But then, we can't all be perfect can we 😇

Actually ear itchiness is normally caused by allergies. So in other words it's not necessarily a contact allergy but just allergies in general. An OTC allergy medication should solve that problem.

I'd wonder about my washing stuff - have they changed the ingredients if you haven't changed the brand. I developed an allergy with PMR - part of the autoimmune process we suspect - so it could be that. Or just the sweating ...
