Knee Pain

Had PMR for about 30 months. After many ups and downs now on 3mg a day. Now have severe pain in my knee when sitting in a certain position. Driving or at football e.g. Not so bad if I can flex the joint. X-ray all clear. Could this be PMR? Doesn't feel like it but...........Thoughts please?

It could be a soft tissue problem, unrelated to PMR. Could you get a referral to a physio? We can self refer here, but not sure if that is true of other areas.

Soft tissue injuries or problems won't show on X-ray.

Thank you, I am seeing doc next week and ask for a referral to Physio

Hi Bill, would think like polkadotcom that it's probably unrelated to PMR, although never say never. Trouble is when you've been on higher doses of Pred which has a habit of masking most pain, we worry when we get to a dose that allows the aches of normal life to re-occur.

Even if you have to go private it's worth getting it checked by a physio- at least you could get an assessment of the situation,

Thank you, and although I don't post very often I have followed a lot of your wise words over the last couple of years. Keep up the great work

Sounds not PMR-ish to me. And as I keep saying - having PMR doesn't prevent us having other things!

You know what your mother would have said don't you? Don't sit in that position then (and I HAVE heard a doctor say something similar...)

Mothers have a lot to answer for! But isn't it great winding up grown-up kids? Nearly makes the aging process worth it................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The absolutely BEST bit is seeing them have a melt-down about their children doing something to them that they used to do to us ;-)

Just read your profile. I too had sarcoidosis some years ago. Wonder if there is a connection ?

Only in the sense that if you have one autoimmune disorder you are at risk of developing another. In my case it turns out I have a very high Vitamin D level, and this can be caused by the granulomas of sarcoidosis activating more Vitamin D than the body normally would. Until all this happened to me I had no idea sarcoidosis didn't just go away, and that it could have hidden effects.

I remember the day our kids were acting up and hubby's mother was sitting there with a little smile on her face which said it all - you (her son my husband) got the children you deserve....

BillP101 profile image
BillP101

Does that mean I got the knees I deserve? Hope that doesn't apply to the rest of me😳

Do you spend a lot of time on them? Praying or scrubbing the floor - they say cleanliness is next to godliness... ;-)

Hi BillP101 only just found your question I went to the GP two years ago as well as all the symptoms of PMR in upper half of body I also had such painful knees, would be out walking my knees would seize up couldn't move they were so painful, went to see Rheumy he did X-rays on knee no sign of osteoarthritis, he sent me to phsyio but as there wasn't any arthritis only inflammation physio said there wasn't any thing she could do for me so just struggled on with steroids they did help knees a little but had pain and swelling for 18 mths wanted to chop my legs of with the pain sometimes, 4mths ago Rheumy put me on 10mg Leflunomide with in 2-3 weeks all swelling and pain dissapeared from my knees and legs no shuffling when I get out of bed in the morning, couldn't believe Rheumy just kept saying it was oesteoartherits when X-rays said there wasn't any there, gradually reducing steroids down to 4&1/2 now everything going well just hope you sort out your knee pain, Rheumy still not sure what was wrong with knees and legs but inflammation levels were high.Valxxx
