Hi,

I've had diagnosed PMR for two years now (down to 3mg a day from 20mg) and I've noticed that if I eat shellfish the stiffness almost paralysis in fact, is much worse the day after.

Has anyone else suffered from this?

Hi Whiskey2, Yes, I definitely agree with you about shellfish making symptoms worse, happens to me too. Am also down to 3mg from 20 after 2 two years. Not feeling great, and having "new" delight with pain in hands, wake during the night with both hands feeling numb and tingling. Ah the joys of PMR!

Hi May 2014,

I am also experiencing pains in my hands ( something I didn't have at the start) and waking up in pain in my back during the night. Usually around 4am. I wonder if it is anything to do with the low dose (3mg) or the withdrawal symptoms from Pred?

Thank you for your reply, I too have back pain that wakes me, (several times a night) as well as hip pain, the endless nights of sleeplessness are very wearing. Also finding walking very difficult, which is not pleasing my dog!! I'm eliminating wheat and sugar from my diet, will be interesting to see if this helps?

I was diagnosed with PMR 2 1/2 years ago and am now on 3mgs of Prednisone. When diagnosed my husband and myself were having quite alot of shellfish and I have not had any since. Shellfish is Acid forming. I try to have a more Alkaline diet. We even had a Hydrogenated Alkaline water system put in ( expensive from America ) I was feeling some depression that went as soon as we had the Alkaline water. Our old water tested Acid so make sure you have the correct balanced diet. There are charts on line that show which Acid -Alkaline foods and the correct balance for maxime health.

Stress is bad for Pmr, so avoid it at all costs.I have found if I am feeling a little sore that taking a Panadol now does help. All the best.

Hope this is a help. Joy-bells. New Zealand.

I thing you've just confirmed a suspicion of mine. I recently switched brands of glucosamine supplement ( largely shellfish derived) and have been incredibly stiff and have pain in my thigh after walking a short distance. I thought this was just coincidence but will stop taking it for a few days and see what happens. I think there is a vegetarian alternative to glucosamine but must investigate this. Thank you.
