Hi, has anybody successfully followed Slimming World with pmr. I have cut right down on my carbs but feel like even after a few days I am putting weight on. I'm terrified of putting more weight on, I need to lose as it is πŸ˜–

There are a few people who have successfully lost weight with various slimming clubs - not sure if there are any on this forum though.

Someone on the Lupus forum the other day said she has lost 10lbs in 3 weeks with (I think) Slimming World while still on pred. My daughter has also lost pred-induced weight with SW though I think she is now off pred for the moment - she has asthma.

Here's a link to creaky's post on LupusUK - I'm sure she'd tell you about her experiences with it.

Janieb293, I can't help you with SW but am on Weight Watchers. When I had to go on 60 mg for GCA in January 2015, I was worried about gaining weight. Already working the WW program and very close to my goal weight, I switched to their program called Simply Filling. Included eating until you are satisfied, not stuffed - lean meat, chicken, and fish, vegetables fruit, grains, dairy. For me, it worked very well and I would push my plate away when I was satisfied. And I actually did get to my goal weight within a couple months. My husband was amazed at the food I was eating. I still follow this program.

How we should be eating really - proper food and eating until you are satisfied, not finishing what's on your plate!

Thank you. I have decided to stick with low carbs and eat healthy real food and healthy fats. Although I am a bread fiend, I'm sure that the cravings will soon disappear.

Hi Janieb, I was overweight before going on to Pred. and then put more on. About 18 months ago after developing painful knees, I decided that whilst I couldn't do anything about the PMR, I could do something about my weight! I have lost over 26 kgs., which is more than my Pred. weight, so far by eating a healthy diet, just as you outline above. I have done all the diets, all the slimming clubs and lost stones and stones before but always put it back on as soon as I relaxed! This time, I know this is a diet for life and what helps that is that no food is off limits if I really want it. One of the things I don't like about Slimming World is the way they talk about "sins" as if some food is inherently "bad" . Everything in moderation feels much more of a positive way to put it.

With you all the way there Suzy! That was what I liked about the 5:2 diet - nothing is banned, you just learn to eat less. And nothing complicated like my brother and family used - they achieved really good weight loss but it was bizarre, one day you couldn't have this, this and this, the next you could. It would have stopped me eating altogether! I lose interest nowadays if the recipe has more than 4 ingredients...

Well done you!!! That's a really fabulous achievement!!! I to have tried most diets over and over, losing and gaining, and I'm still fat......that tells me they don't work!πŸ˜€ So, healthy all the way for me now, with the odd glass of fizz now and again!

Help. My rheumy told me to join ww or slimmers world but there are none near me. I have put on a stone and was fairly well covered before PMR. I really need inspiration and to join a non intimidating gym. Does anyone else have the side effect of snoring? I have become a champion, loud snorer and I have had to move to the attic.

Slimming World (I think) does an on-line version. My daughter joined once to get the bumpf and now gets on with it. There are others with online memberships including Rosemary Conley - I used her classes and that was started me doing any exercise at all, then I graduated to the gym up the road. Those classes of course no longer exist - it's just online now.

Have you seen this: dietclass.co.uk/ - you may find another franchise near you.

I lost weight and others have kept off weight by cutting carbs - if I eat much carb I don't lose any weight or put it on with too much :-( Don't need a club for that - just getting used to it!

I snored dreadfully - it's the fat around your neck that does it, it stopped once I lost weight.

I'd like a non-intimidating gym - with a pool. No such luxury here and they cost a BOMB!

White Fish Bay sounds like Canada! Weight Watchers has an online program you could check on.

I grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin but live in London. Gyms cost the earth here and yes I too just would like a low key gym with a pool. Β£57 per month (and I work in a school..poorly paid).

Gym and pool seem to be mutually exclusive concepts here! Everyone climbs mountains in some shape or form so they tend to be more for body-building/sculpting :-(

The minute it gets dark in winter I come home from work and just want to stay in and bundle up. Basically I am lazy. Trying to walk at least 10,000 steps daily but it is not enough as I am a desk jockey at work. I am back in the grove of not eating carbs again but that is also not enough. Soon I will need to borrow caftans from the Mama's & the Papa's.

Hi, I joined Slimming world a month ago. I have yo-yoed 60-20 mg pred for past 6 years. Finally got down to 4mg, lost 3.5lbs first week then had a flare and went back to 40. Surprisingly I still lost 1 lb a week and although you have to monitor carb and sugar intake I must say it really did help control the cravings I get whilst on a high dose. The group leaders are nice but they refuse to accept that medication can increase ( or decrease ) weight. Now on 15 mgs and lost 4.5 lbs. Lots of shopping and cooking required. Good luck.

That is very common and the biggest disadvantage of many of the groups. They simply regard it as an excuse. It is - but it is also true.
