Pred is the "painkiller" in PMR - very few people find others are of any use - so I doubt there are that many people on a PMR forum who are on it.

The use of opiod painkillers is quite strictly regulated in the UK so it really isn't used as much as in the USA. It is used post surgery and for chronic pain in other conditions - but rarely for diagnosed PMR.

I was put on Oxycodone 10-325 after back surgery.( spinal fusion and lamenectoy). I had long felt that there was some element of PMR intertwined with the bad back. I have reduced my dosage to 1/2 a pill in the am and 1/2 if needed in the evening, my pain is mostly gone . As it is highly addictive, I know I have to get off it altogether but like prednisone my body is saying....not so fast. I am also being asked to reduce my prednisone so I feel like I am walking a tight rope. I am currently trying to get to 10 mg of prednisone by the slow method. I know it is helping my overall feeling and my surgeon commented that is why it is so addictive. I don't know if this is any help .

Prednisone is NOT addictive - if that what your surgeon is saying. Your body becomes dependent on it because it replaces the natural corticosteroid that your body needs to work properly. But that isn't the same thing by any means. And for the PMR you need what you need.

It is crazy to ask you to wean off both the opiods and the pred at the same time. What dose are you on at present? Is all/most of the PMR pain managed by that? Are you as well managed PMR-wise as you were at your starting dose? Which was how much and how have you reduced so far?

Hi pMRpro thank you so much for replying sadly I have been on oxymon for, several years ,it does help but doesn't last to long. My GR / nepheroligist wanted to up it from 5mgx:4 daily to,10 x4 , but I don't want to also take paracetamol .bevause of my ckd & enlarged heart etc I'm really at my wits end. I'm seeing the cardiologist in morning & very nervous ( could say feeling sorry 😐 for myself ) but truly am not just so down & depressed with it all, should add I almost 79 ,but would like to thank you again for your kindness kind regards

Peggy76 I was given that by a young mds assistant mentioned at the last post and when I saw the RA was told I probably wouldn't need it with the Prefnisone so I stopped. Try not to take that dangerous stuff. Wish you well.
