Starting again after a flare up.

Went to see my consultant last night and we talked about my flare up as my GP told me to reduce far too quickly as I had a bad reaction at firsts to the steroids. Stupid really. Anyway, back on 15 for three weeks then 12.5 for three weeks and then he wants me to reduce 1 every month thereafter as he told me this should hopefully stop anymore flare ups and you should reduce slowly. This time I will be doing what he says. We talked a lot about exercise as I have been doing quite a bit and he told me exercise was good and I should carry on with it as it stops impingement in the muscle, so long as it's gentle and little and often. I feel so much better after seeing him and I now except that I have this PMR as its so hard to come to terms with. I think we have to except that if we manage to do five out of ten things a day then that's good. 😸 I also have lots of little tea breaks throughout the day as this helps me. 🌻

Hi,

Good to hear you are feeling much more positive about life. But you still need to be careful about reductions - make sure you're okay at each level before you go down again, particularly when you get to about 7mg, that's when your Adrenal glands need to start doing their thing! Might be worth considering 0.5mg drops when you get that far.

Good luck.

Thank you I will think about that when I get there. 🌻

So good you have got the answers you needed from your Rheumy. Take it all slowly, PMR can be so frustrating and sometimes the set backs or the fatigue do not make sense. It's just the way it is. Hope your journey through the PMR battlefield starts getting easier. Enjoy those tea breaks. X

You can reduce 1 mg per month by following the dead slow nearly stop method. You don't drop 1 mg and stay at the dose, you introduce the new dose slowly and after several weeks you have tapered down to the new dose hopefully without your body objecting too much!
