I am shortly travelling to the USA California- In different time zone- anyone with any thoughts on when to take the pred whilst away - I currently take it all (10mg) last thing at night and that works really well for me?

Hi Roy

Take your usual at 10pm UK time if flight is evening one, and then take another dose - maybe only 5mg about 5-6 hrs later if possible. Then once you get to US and are on their timings carry on at 10 in the evening.

If morning flight then take usual night before , but also take some during your flight to ensure you are okay until you get to 10pm US time.

On return take your dose 10pm US time- then back to normal UK timings.

Hope that makes sense!

Remember not to try and do too much the 1st day after flight, you will be tired. Enjoy

I have found that by sticking to the UK time of 7.30am and keeping my watch on UK time , when we are here in the USA for 3 weeks, I have been taking my Pred at about 10pm their time,it seems that first thing in the morning I am OK - SO FAR !!. When we return home it means that I should be back to normal 7.30am UK. Hopefully.

Okay. That's sounds good. If you've been alright up to now then you shouldn't have any problems. I guess they would have surfaced well before now.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Other medications I take at the "home" time but pred I take when I normally take it, also just before bed in my case because of the type I take. The long day of travel I take a bit of a boost - either a higher dose at the normal time or a few mg at the time I'd take the dose at home. Much the same as DL really.

It's all easy if the time zone difference is small - less so with 9 hours as I had last week! It was all good though...

Hi - I'm currently in North America for a month, visiting relatives - ten days in New York and the rest in various places in British Columbia, which involved another time zone. I'm reduced to 8.5 from 80mg (GCA and RA) and haven't been to the States etc for 5 years. I haven't made any changes to the times I take meds, which is usually 10am, and am doing fine. I was very tired the day after the US flight and had to rest in bed, but otherwise it's ok. Probably best to follow PMRpro's advice, though.
