I thought people with eye discomfort might be interested in this.

This has just been posted over on the lupus forum - with a comment of how much better the "treatments" section seems to be. It certainly has stuff in I haven't seen before!

Hi,

Interesting comment about not using baby shampoo. This must be a new theory, a couple of years ago on here Kate advised me to use it - as recommended by her ophthalmologist! So I'll try the tea tree shampoo instead.

Thanks.

Some baby shampoos have some horrible stuff in them! Johnson's had a dreadful reputation...

Ohh, that life was simple - just sometimes. I'm not a blinking bio-chemist, just a simple soul!

Just because it is "baby" or "organic" doesn't mean it is innocuous...

Do you mean to say that we are being misled in any way by those who should know better.

In the over used phrase of years ago "I do not believe it" .

Actually I do!

Whatever makes you think that?????????????????????

Was interested in this post, as I have had dry eye syndrome for 2-3 years. Am I right to assume that as you have posted this on this forum, there is a connection with PMR?

Many people with PMR have dry-eye problems. It's a common part of many autoimmune disorders.

I know most of you are across the pond, but the information in this guide could still be useful:

PMRpro, thank you for this, very informative and am immediately ditching Johnson's shampoo in favour of tea-tree variety. Then I read through some of HeronNS' link and more 'products' are destined for the bin. Possibly 500 chemicals on my body right now?? Amazing I've got this far in life... food for thought (and there's another scary area!)

The nice thing about the lesstoxic site is there are recipes for some things so you can make your own. Don't know about shampoo, but I've hand sanded the hardwood floors of our bedrooms and waxed them using the beeswax recipe.

Impressive! Yes, lots to look at here - may give the mayonnaise hair conditioner a miss though.. a head of lettuce is one thing, but ...! Thanks for the link.

I have always refused to use any cleaning products with lemon/citrus "flavouring" as the smell just makes me feel ill. I was mocked by all - until the recent research that suggests the most common scent used is carcinogenic was publicised!

Of course - even when OH bought the objected-to cleaner it won't have done much harm given the frequency with which I clean...

The only cleaning products I use in the house (apart from soap and detergent of course) are baking soda and vinegar, and rubbing alcohol.

You might as well use up what you have as the items will end up in the environment one way or another, just don't buy any more. 😉

I am about to order Rose Formula Hydrating Eye Cream from my NYRO shop as I am struggling with dry eye lids. I can guarantee that the products are truly organic and am pleased to say that we have very little non organic hygiene products or cleaning products in the house nowadays.

The most worrying thing about the very unregulated beauty market are the products which contain potential hormone disruptors. This YouTube film is useful.
