Hi seasons greetings everyone. I have been reading an article in agora health bulletin I had posted to me regarding the benefits of a small dosage of nitric oxide for the relief of pain in muscul inflammation just wondering if anyone has given it a try?
Nitric oxide: Hi seasons greetings everyone. I... - PMRGCAuk
Nitric oxide
It's a drug bodybuilders use - it dilates blood vessels and therefore they can workout for longer. The main thing I can remember is that is aggravates coldsores, so I wouldn't use it on that basis. I can do those without help!
Being on steroids, I wouldn't chance it anyway.
Thanks for the prompt reply , your probably correct with your assumption and I'll steer clear. I see my Rhumy this month as I was on Alfuzosin but made the executive decision to stop as it was causing bad head aches, after a few weeks of use. Thanks again
di-bach, perhaps you could try Doxazosin in place of the Alfuzosin. I'm particularly sensitive to medications but so far after 5 weeks on the former, not doing too badly, although I am on a small dose. Hope I haven't spoken too soon!
Hi Celtic thanks for that I will mention that next visit to the GP and see if there's an alternative. I hope it keeps working for you.
Apparently there is some evidence that it does affect some proinflammatory cytokines (the things that cause the inflammation in PMR but there are lots) - but not all and although it may be useful in some things (it is thought to help with wound healing and also pain in osteoarthritis) it can cause problems in other situations. (I haven't read all the paper yet, it's heavy going!). They don't understand the biochemistry yet - so there is a LOT of work to do.
Elsewhere I read that it can improve muscle performance in untrained persons but doesn't have the same effect in highly trained athletes - so the body-building bods are probably wasting their money! There is a Youtube video from someone saying that it is yet another scam to lighten your wallet and benefit the vendors!
And as polkadotcom says - there are side effects and some aren't nice. I doubt it is to be recommended at present.
Thanks for the response everyone it's a great forum so glad I found it is there a meeting place in Manchester area do you know
The Manchester area has its own PMRGCA NW charity:
where you will find all the contact details including the helpline number and email.
A friend of mine is sure that a regular puff of 'whacky baccy' would work better than anything else! Any takers?
I didn't know what you meant by wacky baccy. PMRPro's answer gives a broad hint. There is a non-psychoactive compound (CBD) in the leaves of the plant which is apparently effectively anti-inflammatory, and at the present time producers of hemp seed and other products are throwing that substance away.
