Finding a good rheumatologist

I'd really like a second opinion as I'm not happy with the rheumatologist I've been seeing. I wonder if anyone can recommend someone?

Someone might be able to recommend a good rheumatologist, if you can let us know roughly whereabouts you live.

As Celtic says - need to know where you live. And whether you are able/willing to go private if you are in the UK.

If anyone can help I'd be grateful and I would go private just to find out more than I know at present.

Chynnamoss, unfortunately we don't have a support group near you which would have possibly been the best avenue for a recommendation. However, I have had a quick look at rheumies in your area and have found one who is described as having "a clinical interest in Polymyalgia Rheumatica and Temporal Arteritis". His name is Dr Fazal H Khattak at Sandwell - West Birmingham NHS Trust. Worth a shot maybe if no-one else comes up with a recommendation for you from their personal experience. Otherwise check out all other local rheumies on the web and look up their specialisms/interests.

If all else fails, I have a fantastic rheumatologist in Chertsey, Surrey, who is involved in research into PMR/GCA, who would be well worth a day trip!

Thank you Celtic I will have a look around but would be willing to travel if I have to. The rheumy ive been seeing is a professor Bowman but our complaint isn't one he specialises in. He is well thought of and difficult to see and a nice person but didn't feel he understood. I've been discharged even though my crp and esr have gone up so now my GP is looking after me. I'd just like a second opinion as I'm quite concerned and not well again. Thank you again.

It might perhaps help to post again under a new heading, ie "Looking for good rheumatologist West Midlands area".
