Bed topper comfort

Have just bought a John Lewis bed topper- the top of the range cost £255 for king size. It is so comfy....wish I'd bought it 3 years ago when PMR started and I was in so much discomfort.

Just for info ..... I am on week 3 of no pred and still feeling good.

For those without quite as much spare cash, buying a heavy duty duvet - thick and high tog - that will fit across your bed will achieve a similar result, cushioning your bones and bursae! A normal double bed needs a single duvet.

Sambucca calls it a duvet sandwich...

Sambucca also bought 'slither sheets' now called Easy Sheets, brilliant when you want to turn over.

A lovely lady who is 80 and has PMR told me all about them as she had been advised by someone who had had RA since the age of 23.

Yes I second the duvet sandwich. Don't know how I would have managed without lying on a folded duvet, especially during my first undiagnosed year

i have just bought one of these memory foam toppers from John Lewis recently too, having tried one out at my friends house. It's like being on cloud nine and I look forward to going to bed now. It has certainly helped the pain in my hip and back. I don't wake myself up nearly so often.

The amusing part of this was when I said to my son over the phone that I had bought a topper for my mattress. What on earth are you talking about he asked obviously thinking I had lost a screw or something. He is a dingy sailor and used to have a Topper dingy as a teenager. So maybe I should think of myself drifting on the water rather than on a cloud.

This sounds good. Do you find that it gets hot, as night sweats have become an issue now? My old topper got too warm. Thanks.

Agree with you Content 1,likewise, found it too warm-I believe I am normal!-with PMR and now also Sciatica-well not quite. I returned to my reasonably firm mattress. Slither sheets(sambucca) seem a good idea, now that is, but when I use to jump into bed, I would have been straight out the other side! but it could help with the Sciatica I hope these notes of mine are not offensive to fellow sufferers but I am trying to get through a bad patch at the moment. I haven't found it to be hot. Think just memory foam toppers can be. Mine has a layer of foam topped with something very light- probably a man made fibre. Sounds sweaty but it isn't!

It is possible to get some that have a layer that conducts the warmth away from the body - and it is a problem for many people with PMR/GCA!

I never liked early memory foam stuff - but my daughter's double bed is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! She got it for a bargain price from a friend who'd bought it for himself and hated it - so they are definitely an acquired taste.

The one I got from John Lewis has some sort of topping over the foam, but within the complete zipped cover, as PMR pro said above. My bedroom is quite warm and I am still using a 4.5 tog duvet. I am certainly getting a better nights sleep than before .

I was able to test a topper in John Lewis's in Southampton, on one of their beds before I bought it. Do ask them if you can try it out if you are thinking of buying one. They had a trial one in the beds department. I also bought a deep, fitted Egyptian cotton sheet which is breathable and that probably helps.

I'm not being paid for this advert but the staff were very helpful!!!😄
