Even though I take Omeprazole 20 mgs twice a day I am getting a lot of gastric pain especially during the night, which keeps me awake. Any hints and tips!

One of the common side effects of omeprazole is - believe it or not - stomach pain! You wouldn't be the first person to stop omeprazole because of gastric problems!
You could try using ranitidine (Zantac) instead of omeprazole to see if the pain improves. Ranitidine does the same thing but is just an older drug and has fewer and different side effects. Discuss it with your GP.
Even before GCA/PMR I have suffered from gastric problems and have been taking omeprazole for over five years, with great effect and haven't had this problem in the past, I believe it is a steroid effect and need to up the anti a bit.
I suffer from laryngo-pharyngeal reflux and the ENT consultant prescribed Omeprazole, plus Ranitidine and, last thing at night 15mls of Gaviscon Advance. That sledgehammer succeeded in cracking the nut and I always sleep very well.
