After 18 months I had reduced down to 7.5mgs. I had a hip replacement 29/12/14, but have had pain again in both shoulders, doctor put it down to op. After using crutches not so sure awaiting results of blood test leves this week any observations

Thanks

Using crutches will make shoulders hurt - especially if they are the wrong length. But the stress of an op could also have woken up the PMR dragon for the moment - others I know who have had hip ops found they could reduce better after the op was done and dusted, almost as if the hip pain had aggravated the PMR.

Lionking, the cause could be one of two things, firstly the stress to your body due to the surgery having caused a flare in the inflammation, or, as you say, the crutches having put strain on the shoulder muscles which are probably already weakened from the long-term steroids. Either your GP, a good physio or an osteopath should be able to rule out whether the crutches might have caused a rotator cuff injury (quite common whilst on long-term steroids for PMR). Meanwhile, perhaps an increase to 10mg for a few days might provide the answer as to whether it is inflammation due to PMR, even if the blood tests prove unhelpful. Good luck.
