Feeling well ....last reduction?

Currently on 2 mg pred per day. Hardly dare to say no pains apart from a sore heel rim around my right foot ( think this has crept up over last month - ?) think I'll try and reduce to 1.5 mg Using the very slow method Any extra tips or advice?

Hi - no advice as I'm on 12.5mg..., but I am curious about your heel pain as I have had something similar. I had a hip relacement in November, and all's well, except that around xmas I started to get terrific burning pain in my heels. Eventually went to doc about it, who did the plantar fasciitis test, but it's not that. Opinion seems to be that it's brought on by a change in gait, due to the op. Any ideas yourself? It's mostly gone now, maybe because I'm walking more normally.

Have you changed your shoes, got new ones or are wearing slippers more often.

I experienced that sort of pain and changed my shoes. I found Skechers go walk helped and over time the pain lessened and then I noticed had vanished.

I would not take a drop till the heel is sorted. In the great scheme of things 2mg is fine. You probably don't think that a thing like 'heel' pain, can cause you to become stressed but anything that is nagging away at you does. Hope it sorts itself out.

Be watchful! It wouldn't be the first time someone was fine at 2mg or even 1mg and aimed for zero - and it came back! I have heard of one rheumy nurse who said, it may not seem much - but obviously your body needed it. Most people assume it is such a small dose it can't be doing anything.

I had soreness there - and the cure turned out to be the chiropodist! A really good decoke of hard skin made a fantastic difference and the burning sensation comes back a bit when I need another session. I saw her a few weeks ago and she commented on how different my feet are now from when she first did them when I was having a major flare nearly 3 years ago. The way we walk with PMR can have a big effect on our tooties! Treat yourself to a good pedicure.

I also have problems with foot pain, I think PMR definately changed my gait and my feet tend to roll inwards. I have difficulty with previously comfortable shoes . Be warned about buying expensive inserts for shoes as they can make your shoes narrower and the problem worse.

The only footwear that I found comfortable to walk in were mountain walking shoes! Otherwise it was Birkenstocks. Neither particularly dressy but I never did like shoes anyway! Probably not a woman really if the truth were told. And it was all long before sparkly Birkenstocks were fashion items...

With inserts it is best to get them first and then the shoes to fit. I imagine the UK is a nightmare - one thing the German-speaking world does well is comfy shoes - even handmade shoes aren't an impossible dream! There is even a shoemaker in my village.

Yes, I totally agree. I was fine on 2 1/2 and then went to zero and within a couple of weeks all the PMR pain was back. Now I'm back at 10. Should the next taper be 9? Last time I was at 10, the reduction was to 5.

You mean you went straight from 10 to 5? Oh dear!!!! No reduction should be more than 10%. However - since you were almost certainly fine at 5mg, a reduction via 7.5mg is probably not out of the question if you take a week or so there to make sure you feel OK and then try 5mg. Then try reducing 1/2mg at a time or even better use the "dead slow and almost stop" reduction.

But if you went straight from 2 1/2 mg to zero - no wonder you had problems!

Thanks for replies. Strange as the discomfort is only in one foot. Have been wearing fit flops and sketchers and walking boots. No change in footwear for ages. Might try a pedicure to see if that helps. If I massage my heel rim it helps; have tried wearing a piece of bubble wrap in my shoe- some help! Resisting buying inserts as I can see shoes will be tighter. Wore mid heels last night- actually took pressure off

Since having PMR I have had various pain problems. Will try Dr if it doesn't resolve soon. At least it is only one heel!

I had plantar fasciitis in both feet recently. It was predominantly heel pain, felt like someone was ripping waxing strips off my heels. Alternating heat and cold in the heels helped. Also using tennis ball to massage sole of foot helped. Good luck x
