Celtic knows about this - I thought she might have seen this. Turmeric, cinnamon and a few other spices are good in diet as you can add them to dishes you are making but I'm not very up on it.

Google it and see what you find.

Hi King Harold

I follow an anti-inflammatory diet - I can send you the details and some recipes I have made up using the ingredients allowed. If you could email me at northkent@pmrgcauk.com I will send them.

Best wishes

Yes, I researched anti-inflammatory foods following diagnosis and the mainstay of my diet was oily fish (sardines (with bones - good for our bones!), mackerel, salmon, trout, beetroot, avocado, garlic and turmeric, adding lots of fresh veggies and fruit. I certainly found that whenever I veered of my few helpings of oily fish a week in particular, I became aware of increasing pain and stiffness.

I included lots of diuretic foods to try and offset steroid-induced fluid retention - asparagus, garlic, fennel and melon are helpful.

I reduced carbs such as in bread, white potatoes, parsnips to avoid steroid-induced weight gain and reduce the risk of steroid-induced diabetes due to such foods turning to sugar in our bodies.

I also avoided coffee and sugar as much as possible as these foods stress the adrenal glands which are already being suppressed by the steroids - I felt this was particularly important on the lower doses when these glands are trying to kick back in with their normal cortisol production.

We had a talk from a dietitian at one of our support group meetings and I will be happy to forward an extract from our relevant newsletter covering her talk to anyone who is interested.

Thank you I am newly diagnosed GCA and want to give myself the best chance. I will follow this diet. My son has done some research about the benefial effects of pineapple and they have been arriving in crates. Does anyone have information on this please?

Best wishes

The only information I have - as a diabetic on steroids - is not to take too much of it. It has a very high sugar content and I would think for anyone taking steroids moderation is key.

I remember pineapple often seemed to be touted some years ago as being beneficial to arthritis sufferers due to the bromelain it contained, and certainly bromelain pills were also available. Rosehips are also recommended for osteoarthritis, but I did hear from someone who tried them a long time ago that they did nothing for her PMR inflammation. However, what doesn't work for one might just work for another. Importantly, it's always wise to check with the pharmacist before taking anything alongside Pred, including all over-the-counter supplements and herbal products.
