I took the wrong dose of pred.

Morning guys,

My wife and I decided it would be a good idea to follow your advice, on waiting to lower the dose of pred until after Xmas. I have been on 5mg and was due to come down after taking it for 6 weeks to 4 1/2mg. So I went to the doctors to change my prescription from 5mg to 2 1/2mg, they will then go with my 1mg tablets I got in the UK. The 2 1/2mg tablets are the same size as my 5mg.

I don't know for sure, but maybe for 2 to 4 days I guess, I took the 2 1/2mg, thinking that they were 5mg. I was working hard on the Cortijo building. Suddenly all the old pains were back before I realized my mistake, whoops.

I have been taking 5mg again for the last 3 days, I think I am back to my PMR normal.

I think there is a wider point here that the tablets should be different sizes or shapes fir the differ

ent doses or it seems to me it is asking for trouble. Wonder if PMRGCAUK could take this up?

Hi Buenavista,

Very pleased to hear you are back on track and OK again. I reduce in half mg doses and find 2.5mg tabs very useful, but mine are enteric coated ones - they are brown and shiney and ,therefore, cannot be confused with any other doses. These would be much safer for you. Do ask your GP to prescribe them. Tell him what happened because he might need a bit of a shove as they are more expensive than the ordinary ones.

I will ask the doctor, because it would be a big advantage as my head on a different planet has been my worst side effect. It is a big enough job to remember to take them without the completion of some of them being the same size.

We live inland, about 90 km from Malaga and 5 mins from a town called Rute.

We are on top of a hill, overlooking the olive groves and mountains. We have unbelievable views of Lake Iznajar and the snow capped mountains of Sierra Nevada in the background.

Yes, the weather is very good for the PMR. I have worked on our Cortijo and 2 apartments for about 9 years and love being outside. Until yesterday, I have been working in just shorts and t-shirt most of October, November and December has been between 15 and 20 degree. Today we have rain and is about 12 degrees. We do have snow, but for no more than a few hours, about every 3 years. It's very rare that we have frost and January and February we have some cold spells, but nothing like the UK. This is one of the reasons we came here for, the climate.

Our local medical centre is very good if we have any problems. When I first had PMR, just over 2 years ago. I was worried being in a strange country, but with my doc and you guys on the forum, I feel in good hands.
